  1. I know many of you out there are far better with these new-fangled computer machines than I (I still don't have a text or data plan for my phone, just to give you an idea of how behind the times I am), and was wondering if you have formulated a user-friendly, possibly excel or other program, system for tracking production from beginning to bottle. I'm still using paper forms that I print out and before I attempt to devise my own electronic system, wondering if any of you have one. Make me an offer if you want payment.

    Hi,

I'm a software developer by day and home distiller by night.

I'd be happy to give you (or anyone on the forum) a quote for developing something useful. The best way forward is for us to talk about what you want your electronic system to do for you. Send me a direct message and we can go from there.

    Cheers,

    Jack

  2. Cognac is only distilled from harvest in the fall until March 31st of the next year. So if you want to see cognac in progress you have to go during that time period. I can put you in touch with Cognac Ferrand if you want an in-depth tour since I am very friendly with them. When you are a few weeks from going, get in touch and I will set it up.

Thanks. I knew the timing, and thought that if a group wanted to go, we would have to start planning now. If people do become interested, there is a distiller of Somerset Cider Brandy (England's answer to Calvados) who is an interesting character. He's been battling/working with the EU to get Protected Geographic Indication (general term for the eq of wine's AOC) who, depending on your interests, could be worth talking to.

I'll ping you in the fall about visiting Ferrand.

    Jack
