  1. We have a local distillery that just opened here in upstate NY and I noticed they are selling mixed drinks. Isn't this totally illegal for a distillery to be doing. Don't you need a liquor license to do that? You can't get that license for a tasting room, correct.

This is the second distillery to go on line around here in the last few months that I've seen do this?

Kind of unfair to the other distilleries who are abiding by the rules.

  2. Yes and Jesse at Trident installed one in the Argyle/Greenwich area just last year. Which is only about a half hour from where your place is Peter, so you could check that one out.

Best of luck with this nightmare!

I'd also put Vendome in the "column" still category... the one at Lake George Distilling Company of great.

  3. Nice looking still.

I see a bass amp in the background as well as a guitar case, drums and a keyboard (an old Mellotron?). Seems like being a musician and distilling go hand in hand!

I own Silvertone Mastering myself but have been learning "the craft" from John up at Lake George Distilling Company (thank you John!).

  4. Sorry to hear that Peter, been watching your progress via Facebook. Been meaning to stop by as well. You seem to be all set except for the actual still itself.

Hope you can suss all this out with Still Craft. I looked at their systems as well, they seem to be a "broker" as opposed to an actual manufacturer. So that is where the delay might be coming into play.

Best of luck with getting the issue resolved.

    See you soon,

    Larry

  5. Simple question, if we don't police our own industry, who will?

I've been a part of the professional building community and the professional audio industry, in both these industries it has been other members who have been instrumental in keeping the lines of information open and honest.

If negative reviews are not allowed then positive ones shouldn't be allowed either... but what does that really get us?

I understand the dilemma, but some really good suggestions have been made to minimize possible abuse. I don't understand where the problem lies in an open format discussion?

btw, Thank you for a wonderful forum.

  6. John McDougall from Lake George Distilling Company has been teaching me the "art" and craft of distilling. I really can't thank John and his wife Robin enough. Their grand opening was last weekend and it was a big hit... mainly because the product that they produce is just fantastic.

As you all know finding out how to "work" this industry "legally" is a challenge in itself. That they have been so open to a potential "competitor" speaks a lot of their character as well. You won't find two nicer people and I can't thank them enough. BTW, I feel none of the craft distillers are really competitors as we are all in this together to build an industry.

There is a lot more to this industry than meets the eye (as my mother-in-law would say "it's not as glamorous as it seems"). The paperwork alone is a full time job from what I see Robin doing... the state and TTB really need to steam line this IMHO.

Here is a nice article on just before the grand opening... http://poststar.com/distillery/image_16f3e23e-1742-11e3-a17d-001a4bcf887a.html

And here we are doing some of the "prep" work... (thanks again John and Robin)
