  1. Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out what kind of seal I need to use.

I need a jar lid (think mason jar, but it's not for moonshine). Most of the ones on the market (ole smoky, Georgia shine, junior Johnson) all seem to have a plastisol type seal on their jar lids, but I've been told from multiple sources that plastisol is not compatible with alcohol.

Anybody know what type of seal those jars lids are using?

My other option is pulp and polyethylene, but it has a totally different appearance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. Hello everyone...

I'm trying to find a good source for some bottling equipment. I need a small filler (2-6 heads), a heat tunnel, and a labeling machine.

    New or used.

Does anyone have any good sources or does anyone have any equipment that they are interested in selling?

    Thanks!

  3. I need some bottles. I'm looking for 1,000-2,000 375ml bottles...specifically the Oslo style, but let me know what you have. If you are a distiller and have extras or stock that isn't going to be used, please contact me.

I am also welcoming quotes from wholesalers. Please call or email.

    Thank you.

  4. Are there any good alternatives to steam heat?

I'm looking at a site that doesn't have any natural gas service. How efficient is propane if it's used to fire a boiler? Are there electric boilers that would do the trick and what size still would I be limited to (ideally I would be using a 100-250 gallon still)?

I know Vendome has that little 30 gallon electric and I believe that they built an electric still for Corsair Artisan in Kentucky, but are there other options out there?

Will the heat up time be severely affected if steam is not used?

  5. Nope...not home distilling here. I have seen each of the heat sources that I have listed at use in legitimate DSP's. You have to remember that not every DSP out there is using new, professionally constructed equipment. Hell, I bet half of them don't have built-in agitators on cookers or stills. I'm just concerned with the cost of gas and a boiler and a boiler inspection and boiler maintenance.

I know some guys out there using electrically heated oil jackets on some pretty big stills and I know that Vendome has made some 30 and 50 gallon oil jacketed stills. I wonder if they are costly to run and what the heat up time is.

Just trying to weigh some pro's and con's.

    Thanks.

  6. I thought a steam boiler was the way to go, but I've seen quite a few different methods lately and I'm wondering what everyone is using and what is the most efficient, most practical, and safest. Oh, and how is the heat up time with your system?

Here is what I have seen to date:

    Steam-jacketed stills and cookers

Oil jackets that are heated with electricity

Home-made mini boilers that consist of kegs of water heated with electricity

    Electric hot plates

    Propane burners

    Natural gas burners

Any issues with local fire codes or with the ttb on heat sources? Anyone actually burning wood under a still?

    Thanks for the input.

  7. Hello all,

I'm looking for some cooker options. I need a 500 gallon cooker, steam jacketed or live steam sparger, cooling coils, and an agitator. Can anyone point me in the direction of some quality equipment manufacturers?

    Thanks in advance!
