Submitted a formula for a flavored vodka and now think I want to sweeten it slightly. Can I do this without a formula modification and is there a limit to the amount of sugar that can be added?

Can dry-rolled corn be used like steam rolled corn for making a mash, hence bypassing the boiling of the corn and just doing the grain steep with the malted grain addition?

Hi,
Anyone have any suggestions on the optimum diameter cork size in mm when using synthetic corks as far as oversizing in comparison to the internal diameter of the bottle mouth?

Porter,
What company are you dealing with that sells the extract?

I found alcohol tables at 60 degrees so I spent the last few days doing data entry into excel to make a spreadsheet to calculate temperature correction for proof measurements.(TTB table 1)Works great! I plan on using other data I collected to figure weight/volume measurements for the spreadsheet next.

Jeff,
I'm working on how to proof and will post it on the website www.distilling.com
soon

That's great!
Are you using the math behind the tables to create the calculator?

Does anyone know of an online calculator or software that you can input temperature and proof data that will give temperature adjusted proof reading? I realize the TTB has the .pdf showing the tables. Does anyone know if the formula used to create the tables is something not to overly complicated so that maybe I could have a java based calculator created and if so where I might find the formula(s)?

It was a month ago. But I just got notice today that my bond had an error so it will take a little longer before I get an interview since I have to send the bond back to the surety for their intials. Dumb mistake on my part and the surety didn't catch it either.

What is the average time between when the TTB receives a DSP application and when you can expect them to contact you for an interview? I am currently awaiting to here from the TTB on my application.
Thanks,

What type/make of still are you talking about?
It's a 4" head designed for vodka production but could also be used as a pot still.

I am considering adding a DSP to our winery. I was thinking of using a smaller kettle for the still with a removable still head. What I was wondering is if I did the DSP paperwork with the smaller boiler could I get away with adding a larger boiler in the future without doing additional paperwork? I would use the same output capacity still head.

Currently a bill for domestic distillery operations in ND has passed the house and senate and should get signed by the governor in the next month. My question is I currently use a insurance company for my winery operations and I am looking at possibly adding a distillery operation to the premises. My current Insurance company (CNA) won't insure the addition of a distillery. Does anyone know of a company that has a policy that covers all the necessary coverage for both winery and distillery operations?

Missouri allows it, also we can pour by the drink, sell on premise and self distrbute "what a state"
For those folks that have a winery and distillery, can you tell me if spirits are removed taxpaid can they be moved to the same taxpaid area that wine is moved to? The same retail section.

What is the TTB requirement for how far a distillery has to be located from another non-distillery (dwelling) related building?

Does anyone know how many states right now allow samples and sales of their product on premises? I plan on using the information in testimony on a bill that was recently introduced.

I had read in a previous American Distiller newsletter that lobbying was being done to allow distillery operations on a winery premise. Does anyone know more about that?

The NY Farm Distiller law allows sales and tastings as well, but I don't think it's expected that the sampling room is right in the bonded warehouse. Ralph Erenzo would know more.
Does anyone have an idea how many states have provisions allowing sampling? I see New York and Colorado from previous posts.

It would be helpful if we knew what state Jeff, is in? Every state has different laws and "work-arounds."
I am from North Dakota and currently have sponsors for a bill to be introduced next session allowing farm distillery operations. I want to be able to provide sampling within the laws of what the TTB allows and make sure the bill provides for that privilage within the state statute. From a previous post I gather that all that is required is the ability to retail on the state level and have the retail section in an unbonded area. Any thoughts or suggestions?
