  1. I’m glad to see many of the changes.   In my area there are stores that have craft sections and up to 50% of these products are nothing but bottling companies.  They are definitely not distillers, There marketing companies .  the problem is retailers like the low prices and stock their products if your true craft and make your spirits from grain in house it’s really hard to compete and have a bourbon on the shelf for $30.

I will be very happy to see on these products in the future the states that the product was to still dead and it will not be in the state the business is currently operating and

We all need to do our part when doing tours in our Distillery‘s to pick up a bottle of whiskey and explain the terminology we been doing this for years.   I think these new rags will help customers see through the bullshit currently on market

  2. We have thousands of used racks in inventory here in California. Prices ranging from $25-$50 we have both two and four barrel racks available. Forklift openings ranging from 3" - 7" in both double and single bars. All racks are straight with no bending or metal fatigue. If needed we can also get you a freight quote. With reasonable full and LTL shipments. Let us know what your barrel storage needs are.

Hello Please contact us at kent@grandtraversedistillery.com concerning the racks.

  3. Hello

Wondering what size of screen material may work best for this purpose? Has anyone ordered this material to filter out the liquid after distillation? We use a 2 roller mill so the grain is not milled to a powder. Looking at buying a steel container and building up the bottom with a screen and allowing the liquid to filter out.

    Thanks

  4. In Michigan we have a very high mark when looking at the taxes paid on spirits here. Has anyone had any success going to their state capital and as a group getting a reduction in the state tax paid on spirit? My thought was that if a distillery produces the spirit and uses local agriculture to produce these spirits how about a reduction in the taxes paid? Not expecting much to happen on this here because of our economy but would like to know if other states were helping distillers located in their states. It would make sense because if we are buying our grains that are grown by farmers in the state we are helping supporting the economy and helping our farmers.

  5. Does anyone have a good source for sweet molasses? Would like to play around with a rum but am running into walls on where to purchase quality sweet molasses.

    Thanks

  6. We are working on our new web site, almost done but still working on a few details. Mark Gorman is doing the site for us and we like his work enough that I asked hit to place his link on the bottom right of our home page.

    Our site is www.grandtraversedistillery.com

Take a look and if you like the site you can contact Mark via his link on our home page.

  7. Hello Guy

As for the tasting end we just sample a small amount and serve it in "communion cups" that are bought online. The are small plastic cups that hold just a taste, I'll bet it is not much more than a tablespoon. More than enough for a taste but no one would want to come in and waste their time trying to get a jump on a Friday or Saturday night buzz. This gives us the option to refill for a second taste if we want to but the amounts are perfect. We found the source online by searching for communion cups or give me a call and we can pull the order.

  8. Hi Bob

We bought the same filte and found a source for them. Call George and 231-947-8635 and he should be able to find the source where we bought them. Found the original filter, works great.

  9. We have not had any problems yet but the idea of cleaning two sections at a time to reduce pressures makes sense. I also wonder if maybe the temp of the cleaning fluid could be too hot and the two different metals are heating up at different speeds?

We heat to about 150F when cleaning the still and columns. Hope this helps.

  10. How many are using a mash meaning fermented grains, not a wash, in a direct fired pot still, or for that matter a steam heated still. Why have I read that it burns?

I believe the key is to control the temperature, alchol evaporates at a lower temperature then water, or mash, we haven't had an issue with this at all
