I am in the (very) early stages of trying to setup a DSP in Maryland. However, I cannot seem to find an answer as to what can and cannot be a distillery. I found the federal law stating that the distillery cannot be attached to a residence. I have called everyone from the liquor board in Maryland to the zoning commission. All seem to point me to the other. Does anyone know of a resource to search commercial properties by manufacturing zoning (specifically in Maryland)? Thanks in advance for your time and help! I am really excited to be a part of this forum!

Hello, I am working with my local legislator to revamp zoning rules in our county. Currently the zoning rules are quite restrictive and date from when the operating distilleries and breweries were places that produced thousands of gallons a week. Fast forward a few decades and there are no such businesses but an interest in small breweries, wineries and distilleries. I have the attention of a county legislator who has his legal staff already working on a bill for craft breweries and wineries and has reacted very positively to my request and asked if I could gather examples of other municipal governments that have altered their zoning to allow distilling in Commercial zoned properties. Current zoning only allows it in Heavy Industrial zones. What counties and cities would folks recommend and if you have specific links, I would be very grateful. Kind regards, -- Dan

Hello, I'm writing to ask if any of you would be willing to share with us a completed version of their TTB application, with redacted sensitive information. We are going in front of the state senate for a hearing on an important bill on Wednesday, and feel that it would be a great visual statement to show them the length of a fully completed application, with all appendices and documentation. I know this is a lot to ask on short notice. For your reference this is bill 1293, a bill that would give distilleries, wineries, and breweries the ability to sell retail, but demands that they have been in business for three previous years. We feel that this gives unfair advantage to existing businesses and will prevent distilleries from starting up in Indiana. We need to show the legislature that the hoops we have to jump through at the Federal level are significant enough already. http://www.in.gov/apps/lsa/session/billwatch/billinfo?year=2013&session=1&request=getBill&docno=1293 Thank you, Adam

Looking to start a micro-distillery in Northern California

Hi everyone, My name is Sergio D. Acosta and I was wondering if anyone here had experience with obtaining a local permit/license to distill whiskey and sell it. I've found only a handful of distillers in California and so I don't know how difficult it is to start. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thank you so much!
