My name is Josh and after returning from a deployment to Iraq a little over a year ago I decided to pursue a dream of mine and started a small distilling company in San Diego, Ca. After checking out the majority of the local craft distilleries in the area, I found a distillery that agreed to let me rent time on their equipment to produce my spirits. The owner has really taken me under his wing, showed me the ropes, taught me a ton, and I couldn't be more thankful to have a solid mentor in this tight knit community. Over the last year I've been able to distill around my training schedule and have made rum, spiced rum, bourbon, and an American single malt. I'm getting ready to attempt my first rye whiskey soon so I'll be scouring the forums looking for advice on everything that goes into taming the beast that is rye. My end goal is to open up my own brick and mortar distillery when I retire from the Navy, whenever that may be... Cheers, JC Deaf Shepherd Distilling Co.
