How does one go about using GNS to produce vodka and claim the vodka has been distilled by your own distillery? I greatly appreciate tips and comments.

Does anyone attempt to maintain the condition of new barrels simply through external methods before filling? It was suggested by an owner of a winery to maintain the tightness of the barrels, once received from the cooperage, by covering the head with water and a bit of potassium metabisulfite (I have read that citric acid also works to prevent growths). When the heads dry, flip the barrels and repeat. We have not yet filled any charred barrels yet to verify if the method works, so take my input with a grain of salt.

We do a light caustic 1-2% then rinse and follow with a heavier Acid wash (phosphoric) 3-5 %, Then a really good rinse before distilling.
Works well for us.
We use an Acid Metal Polish, from our chemical guys, for the outside. It's a powder you mix with water and it's AMAZING for polishing the outside. We follow that with Turtle wax to preserve the shine a little longer.
What is the composition of the acid metal polish? Thanks.

Hello,
Try investigating the low-flow meters from Cole Parmer.

Does anyone know where to obtain a slow rate flow meter safe for measuring distillate coming off the still? -
Greetings from South Dakota's distillery with the license number 1.
I am working with a fellow member, AJR, on producing a variety of spirits. We are aiming at a launch in May before his departure.
I am a chemist by training and am new to the alcohol industry destined for human consumption. I have previously worked in the research and development department of POET Energy which produces ethanol for fuel.
I hope my knowledge of chemistry and mistakes made thus far will be of some use in the forum (instead of just asking questions).
Cheers,

GNS to Vodka Distilled by X
in Federal Gov't

That is the option we are hoping for. If we 'redistill' the GNS, in the eyes of the Fed, can we call the vodka distilled by ourselves? Or must we blend the GNS with our own distilled spirit? Thanks. CFry
