bioviper Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 after you add your sweetener to your liqueur. your honey or corn syrup or what ever you use. will you still get a proper reading with your proof hydrometers with all that sugar in there? if not what would you have to do to get your proof right for bottling? cheers
Mike Fiore Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I usually use a distillation apparatus to determine the alcohol seperation. It is quite an inexpensive and from what my expierence tells me it is as accurate as they come. There is also various lab all over the country that can do a test for about 35 dollars but don't quote me on that price. good luck
Kristian Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 buy a lab still (www.pelletlab.com) and follow the guidelines on gauging (http://www.ttb.gov/foia/gauging_manual_toc.shtml)
bioviper Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 buy a lab still (www.pelletlab.com) and follow the guidelines on gauging (http://www.ttb.gov/f...anual_toc.shtml) ok so the hydrometers wont work. thanks
Kristian Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 It's simple. Take a volume of your liqueur, distill it so there is almost nothing left in the lab still and then top it off to the same volume with water. Then use your hydrometer to measure the proof.
