Hi, I've been through every posts till 2015 and havent find anything on foraged botanicals so here is my question: Let's say I forage wild botanicals in a foreign country and make a spirit with these botanicals abroad then import everything bulk to be bottled in the US; knowing that every botanical is on the FDA list, do I have a chance for my formula to be approved even if the botanicals don't come from a certified provider? Thanks a lot!!

We're working on our spiced rum and it will contain less than 2.5% total flavorings and caramel coloring. Will this product need a formula to be approved by the TTB? Also what is required on the label? Is "Spiced Rum" sufficient, or does it need to contain a statement "Rum Flavored with vanilla, almond, and other spices"? I've read through a lot of the TTB documents but still haven't been able to pinpoint a conclusive answer. Another question, does the addition of flavorings change the class & type designation to a "Flavored Rum"? It seems like it should, but maybe not?

Hey everyone, Has anyone ever tried to get a formula approved with the herb Meadowsweet (latin name Filipendula ulmaria)? I'm experiencing a lot of difficulty with my TTB officer at the moment. I know of multiple products that list meadowsweet right on the bottle/label, so I'm curious if anyone has any ideas why they want to deny me use of this herb. I've gone through three rounds of formula corrections all coming back negative. What do you guys think?

Is it possible to make a change to an approved ttb formula? For example: adding a small amount of sodium hydroxide to balance the pH of an existing product, or changing the bottling proof? I know the formulas allow some leeway in terms of how much of each ingredient is put in, but what if I would like to change something more than that? do I have to submit a totally new formula?

I just got my DSP at the end of August, and so now we're underway in the Forumlas / COLAs online business. I'm just curious how long this has taken for anyone else who's recently gone through the process? Here's the timeline so far: August 7th: TTB Agent requests a bond correction, says there are no other issues. Mad scramble to take care of that. August 31st: DSP approved! We used permits online, took about 10 weeks. Put in for the username / password for TTB online. Sept 7th: Username and password approved. Formula is submitted right away, but I discover that COLAs have to wait for that to be approved first (someone please tell me if I have this wrong!). Today Sept 14th: So far nothing, although I am probably being impatient. Also, it seems like this stuff always happens late on a Friday so perhaps there will be a nice surprise this afternoon.
