I would love to know how a 100 liter setup, costing probably as much as one 10 times its size, can be an economically viable way to produce spirits.  Do the math: 100 liters of mash might yield 3 proof gallons of finished whiskey (it can't produce vodka). Assume aging loss of 10%, you'd have like 12, maybe 15 bottles of spirit.  That's the yield for like 4 days of your labor. And that is, of course, assuming you are an exceptional at mashing and your ferments are perfect and your cuts are generous.   No offense, but this pitch is better suited for homedistiller.org

  3. Hey everyone. We are upgrading our bottling line and are preparing to sell our existing line.

    We have a 2016 In-Line system that has a 4 head filler with an over pressurized and explosion proof control panel, an automatic CCR Engineering Model D T-Corker, 2-Label labeler with hot stamp label coder, and a heat shrink tunnel.  It will include an unscrambling and a collection table.   We have a manual air sparger table too, but I think we will hold on to this.

    We upgraded the product pump for the unit and it makes use and cleanup super easy. 

    Depending on when our new equipment comes in, this may be available in early September 2021.   

    Throughput on this line is about 300BPH.  But that is going kind of easy.  

    Attached is a line drawing of the system and we plan to post videos and photos soon.

    Asking price is $70k and we can even have the buyer come and see it in action and learn the system before we disassemble it.

    We are adding a return buttress fitting to our column.  We can do it in a 1.5inch tri clamp or a 1/2 inch FMPT buttress socket.  I am agnostic as to which.    

    Since the column is solid copper, we wanted to keep the buttress fitting in copper as well.  

    I have attached pics for reference.  

    I know I could use a standard copper sweat fit 1/2 inch FMPT adapter, but they arent terribly robust and the thread exposure is pretty limited.

  5. I am running into a challenge with a new building upfit and thought I would throw this to the peanut gallery.

    We planned for a roof penetration for our vodka column. The construction is underway. The city engineering revised the roof penetration needs substantially and the cost has now increased a bunch.  

    The question becomes easier: spend a ton of money to do a roof penetration or modify equipment to deal with a lower ceiling?

    Does anyone have thoughts on making a vodka column lower or dividing it in half?

    True: but most of them have on staff someone (or teams of people) like Donald Snyder, and wouldn't require Whiskey Systems.  Alas, I cant afford a full timer that does nothing but systems management and materials/inventory/cost accounting.  

  7. Whiskey systems is to us the best there is.  Was using it since the start and has seen how much it's grown. It simply covers everything.  

    I was thinking of this the other day; IMHO if you aspire to grow your distilling business you're going to be using WS software eventually, regardless of the system you use presently.  It's the only one that can handle all scales of distillery enterprises.

  8. As you can read by the different responses, this is a local code issue.  Run it by your architect and make sure the plans pass muster for your building permit/CO application.

It's been a mixed bag here too.  We have plenty for sale in different sizes in the stillhouse retail store.  We do gallon and half gallon containers.  We are seeing an odd swing of availability in the local marketplace; one day the local Walmart or CVS is flush with inventory. The next day they're empty.  As a result, we're just telling people we have it, we will always stock it as long as there is demand, and we will watch the local pricing to stay competitive.  We kind of treat it as a new sku - and one that draws first time customers to the retail store.
