  1. Can anyone offer any comparison information as to the efficiency and/or the operating costs of Electric vs. Gas boilers?

The electric boiler quotes we have are substantially less, but we are wondering if the lower initial cost makes sense in the long run.

    Any help is appreciated!

  2. So reading the IFC and IBC related to distilled spirits.

We have our sites set on an existing block building for our DSP.

The 2021 IBC states "An automatic sprinkler system shall be provided throughout a group F-1 fire area used for the manufacture of distilled spirits"

The same is said for S-1 regarding bulk storage.

We are attempting to avoid the costly install of a sprinkler system.

Our municipality goes by 2020 codes for now, but would we have to sprinkle if/when they decide to go by the newer code requirements?

    Any incite is appreciated!

  3. Hello all,

We have been offered services in exchange for a barter once we open and are unsure if this is a possiblity, legally speaking.

I know bartering itself is entirely legal but when it comes to booze, can a distillery (as long as everything is accounted for and taxes paid) work such a deal?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I've been surprised in the forum on more than one occasion and dont mind taking the bullet for any/all that have also been offered such a choice.

  4. Hi all,

Hoping to get some first hand knowledge from folks that have used wood fermenters.

I love the look of wood tanks and understand they can add complexity as time goes on, but want to know the nitty gritty of maintaining these beauties.

Anyone willing to share their experience, and give some go or no-go reasons for wood fermentation tanks?

  5. Hello All,

Whats are thoughts on sizing retorts in comparison to your main still? How big/small should the first and second retort be?

I understand that its going to depend on what you are deciding to make and the style but as a general rule, how do you size?

We also started using software once we were in production and we found helpful for learning the rules. It is important to note that you need to send in reports starting the month you receive your federal approval even if they are just all zeros.

Thank you! That much I understood. I was considering getting the software sooner to 'play around' but it sounds like it wouldn't be worth the added expense.
