  1. Would like to get experiences with UPC coding.

Obviously, each bottle has a UPC code. What about separate UPC codes for the shipper (indicating a full case) or for the pallet? Are you placing the bottle UPC on the outside of the shipper case, or using a unique case UPC, or both? I also know some of the control states and Canada require special numbers and coding...

    Thanks for the help!

    Wes

  2. Richard,

Please contact me about pricing for the large racks. Can you send specs/photos?

    Thanks,

We are now offering powder-coated metal barrel racks

The racks hold 2 barrels each and are stack-able (3 levels high)

    15/30/53-60 gallon sizes

    Forklift-able

    ships 10/pallet

Let me know if you want a quote

    Thanks

  3. Jim Beam has experimented with palletized warehouses. They used standard 53 gallon barrels. In a palletized warehouse, the barrels are on-end, not on their sides. Beam had them nine to a pallet, then stacked them, using huge fork lifts to move them around. The warehouse itself is just a big pre-fab steel shell on a concrete pad, with huge fans to provide ample air circulation. The palletized warehouses are still in use but Beam decided not to build more, due to excessive leakage from storing the barrels that way.

Thanks to everyone for their insight and information.

Chuck, your answer was much along the lines of what I really needed to know. I want to take a portion of our inventory and have the ability to perform some enhanced maturation under various controlled climates, and the portability of this inventory is very important. The leakage is a concern, but as this will probably only be 50 or so barrels at this time, it should not be significant. Pallatizing seems like a better solution than using the portable racks (like I have seen in the wine industry primarily).

    Thanks again!

  4. I'm looking for some language of the penalties of theft or of B&E from the DSP premises. Anybody know where I can find this?

It's mostly because we want to put up a sign that looks cool and want to know the language that supports it. Anybody have an idea here?

  5. Read New York State ABC law. Certain Distillery licenses allow the licensee to apply for on-premise sales. It means going through the application ringer and complying with on-premise sales regulations, but you are permitted to make application for the permits.

Thanks Ralph. I was hoping you would reply. My client is looking at the Farm Distiller's license, in addition to a possible A-1, but I was hoping there was a shortcut on this particular issue. When you call the ABC, they shoot down the notion pretty quick of having a saloon controlled by the same licensee as the the DSP.

BTW, enjoyed the Hudson Baby Bourbon at the recent ADI Workshop.

    Best,

  6. It is apparent that NY is much like other states, wherein a DSP licensee is not permitted to hold an on-premise license. Anyone know of loopholes here, where a manufacturer may operate a bar adjacent to the DSP?

    Thanks,

    WH

  7. Wes,

at $10 to $20 used for 2 barrels, consider these:

there are guys here in wine country who refurb these for $41 each - powder coated. new they're around $80 if i can find the guy. ...examples:

the great thing is flexibility - no fixed ricks, just open warehouse on concrete. use a standard forklift, stack 4 high here or 6 high in non-earthquake areas.. 8 to 12 barrels in 16 sqft.

be the first on your block to buck tradition and go modular,

    ...your friendly "agile business" consultant.

Thanks Will. I have considered this previously, and probably need to take another look because of the flexibility of this option.

  8. Seeking a producer of GNS in New York. Prefer GNS which can be certified as a NY State agriculture product (51% NY raw materials).

    Please respond to whenderson@masterdistillerselect.com

    Thanks!
