  1. How do others go about submitting samples to competitions - especially those that are out of state? Is this permitted by the ttb? Is it simply ignored? Would love to get into these, but we don't want to get in trouble with the ttb.
  2. I've also been wanting to find distillery management software. I've been looking into Quickbooks POS and Premier Management/Wholesale to help track the financials and inventory, but I haven't thought to use it to track unfinished product or use it to assist with ttb reporting. I'd be curious to hear how it works. We now track everything by hand on tables which I then transfer to excel prior to reporting. It is a royal pain. I look forward to learning about anything out there that might make this task less cumbersome. And I agree about reporting times - quarterly would be so much better!
  3. Are you interested in getting in on the ground floor of a brand new microdistillery? We are a farm distillery located on an apple orchard in upstate NY, less than half an hour from Albany. We currently distill one brand of vodka, but are looking to add several other spirits within the next year or so. We would like to hire someone who will be able to take over much of the distillation process and assist in our tasting room. We are looking for someone organized, eager and willing to learn and grow with us. No distilling experience is required. Please forward a letter of interest and your resume to harvestspirits@gmail.com.
  4. Over 2 years ago, we knew this license was coming and decided to get started. We opened two days ago, so be prepared for a long road. However, I do know there will be several more "farm distilleries" in the very near future. The deal is the Class D lets you sell both retail and wholesale, but you have to be located on a farm and must use "primarily" NY grown products. It is not entirely clear now what that really means, but currently they seem to be going with over 50% of the ingredients in each product give the NYS ABC legal dept a call for clarification. If you are really interested in pursuing this, I recommend attending the ADI conferences, the distilling training workshops run by some of the still manufacturers, and visiting lots and lots of distilleries. There are a growing number of small distilleries in the northeast, all of whom would likely welcome you visit. Good luck on your venture.
