Cool Guy Sky
We produce a Bourbon Barrel Aged Rum, and claim so on the label. To make this product, we buy once used bourbon barrels and fill them with rum. My question is, if we dump one of these barrels and reuse them for rum again, are we allowed to claim that second batch of rum is "Bourbon Barrel Aged"? My understanding is that once the barrel is dumped, it's now classified as a rum barrel, and so any rum aged in it a second time cannot be called "Bourbon Barrel Aged". Is this accurate? Or can we get away with reusing barrels without changing the labels? Thanks!
Pour Decisions
Good question. i don't make rum so no direct experience here but I've never seen mention of this in any TTB regulations. I think the only specifics regarding barrels is for Whiskey classifications.
