Seahawk
Greetings everyone. I'm working through a production cost spreadsheet, and have a question about California taxes. The state Board of Equalization site says wine and beer manufacturers must pay excise taxes, but spirits are taxed only at the wholesale level. Does this mean California spirits manufacturers only pay the Federal $13.50//proof gallon? Thanks in advance for the info.
will
In CA, spirits excise taxes are paid by the distributor, not the producer. It's $3.30/wg for 100 proof and under, double that above. Excise applies to all spirits, regardless of where produced.

Beauport Bob
Will, Interesting. WG? Does that mean the tax on ABV is higher let's say on a flavored Vodka at 35% than on a clear spirit of 40%?
