twardena
Was wondering if you can write off as a business expense purchasing other spirits as R&D? If I purchase various bottles of whiskey to compare and taste can we write this off as a business expense?
Roger
Perhaps not, if your occupation is something like a cab driver, or a plumber

Artisan Still Design
I've had this same discussion with my wife, if you're going to purchase liquor for R&D, there ought to be evidence when the tax man comes around. if you have bought several cases of your favorite brand and your local IRS agent comes calling, you better have more than half bottle left, and a good story for what happened with the rest. I have my cabinet for drinking and I have my tasting Library, the two are kept separate, and look very different. I have some very expensive Whiskey in my library, and I have some very nasty whiskey as well, each has a different lesson to teach.
pressure9pa
I have used it buying commercial GNS from the liquor store (everclear) for a variety of exepriements. I also have a log of each experiment with what I was trying to study or create, and in case of creation, I have at least 50 mL saved just to prove I did it.
