  1. Thanks guys, that's the way I read/interpreted it too. Just looking for confirmation of actual situations. Will final check with TTB of course.
  2. Just bumping this old thread. I am looking at leasing a space in a building that also contains a brewery. The areas are separated by walls and the Brewery is owned by another person. Can I assume under these circumstances that I would be in compliance with TTB? I am asking this based on the regulation below: A person who intends to establish a distilled spirits plant may not locate it in any of the following places: (a) In any residence, shed, yard, or enclosure connected to a residence; ( On any vessel or boat; © Where beer or wine is produced; (d) Where liquors are sold at retail; or (e) Where any other business is conducted except as provided in §19.54. Is anyone else actually doing this now? It seems like a natural synergy.
  3. As one going through this process right now I say "amen" to that but I'm not sure that's such a bad thing. Being forced to dig more seeply into sizing of equipment and realistically looking at necessary production volumes to be successful (hopefully) has really been an eye opener. The amount of work required to get up and running is indeed monumental and costs to do it right can be pretty suprising. If you have no real distilling experience it also doesn't take long to realize theat you don't necessarily know WTF your doing!! :-)
  4. I was at Eastside Distilling (formerly Deco) in Portland Oregon the other day and they are appearently using the Hillbilly Column for production runs. I didn't get to talk to anyone there to verify this for sure but it was the only still I saw in the place. Hillbilly also makes pot still arms so for expermentation it seems like having interchangeable pot arm and column that could be used on the same boiler makes some sense.
  5. As a guy looking to start new in the business I think the try before buy could be a lifesaver in making sure you get the right equipment in hand from the start. Better to make a trip for a show and tell than end up with the wrong piece of equipment. All your stuff looks great BTW.
  6. I have dealt with Total Wine in Arizona and it's a great store. Very happy to see they are looking to be freindly to the craft distiller!!
  7. Rick, Thanks for the link, I have visited thier website and subscribed to the newsletter. Goinf out today to visit a few local distilleries to try to get a feel if I am totally nuts to try this!! :-)
  8. Hi All, My name is John Wymore and I am located near Portland Oregon. I have some amatuer background in beer and wine making and have become very interested in pursuing spirit distallation and am currently researching the possibility of starting a micro distillary in the Portland area. Would love to talk to any other producers in the area to gain knowledge and perhaps a little mentoring.
