  1. I am looking for a 4 or 6 head bottle filler that can fill a bottle that has a 4" neck. Thank you, Brad Irwin Oregon Spirit Distillers
  2. Pump it into a tote and have a farmer. Fork lift it into the back of his truck and ask him to make sure the tote comes back clean. If it doesn't get another farmer. There is no need to separate the grain from the liquid.
  3. I am looking for a supplier of 200 * 200 mm filter sheets from Begerow. The ones I have been using are Select A 20 and Select A 80. I know some wine shops that sell the "K" series. I am not sure if the "K" series will work for 80 proof alcohol. Thank you for the suggestions, Brad Irwin, Oregon Spirit Distillers
  4. I only sent my sample to the TTB. It passed first time. Brad Irwin, Oregon Spirit Distillers
  5. I am 12 feet below the sewer main. Our waste goes into a pump station. The landlord did not use grinders and it is a problem. The grain collects at the bottom of the sewage tank and clogs the pumps if we are not diligent at keeping it clean. Additionally, we have to be careful because the pipe that goes to the sewer from the pump is 100 feet long as it rises 12 feet. Grain settles if it doesn't get pushed all the way up. Eventually it gets impacted. and that sucks. I wish I considered this when I moved in. Brad Irwin, Oregon Spirit
  6. Does anyone have any recommendations for a CRM (Contact Resource Managment) for a two to five member sales team? I talked with Sales Force today. They have a solid product but it is not free. Thanks, Brad Irwin
  7. If I get kicked out of the small-batch club someday, I think I will be OK with that.
  8. Grain is clogging the sewage system in the building we lease. We pump out all of our stillage and that goes to farmers. But when we clean the stiill and fermenters some grain gets washed down the drain and is creating quite a problem. I want to put some sort of screen/trap between our floor drain and our main sewage line. I am thinking that something between 5 and 10 gallons of material would be the right size. Please point me in the right direction. Thank you, Brad Irwin Oregon Spirit Distillers
  9. When we make rye we use 450 pounds to 300 gallons. We have found it important to use plenty of alpha amylase while mashing in the grain the mash will get to gummy. Then your in trouble. But the reason rye tastes so good is because it is so hard to work with.
  10. We use: http://www.carbonresources.com They are nice people with good product. Brad
  11. We want to start laying away our bourbon in 53 gallon barrels. So far everything is in 30 gallon from the Barrel Mill. they are great barrels but not available in 53's. What other suppliers should I talk to besides Independent Stave? We want to purchase 36 to 48 per year. Brad Irwin Oregon Spirit Distillers
  12. I have been asked to do an outdoor historical distillation demonstration, with a traditional moonshine still. Is there a substitute liquid that I could I could use to distill from a water solution. Vaporization point close to 78°. Clear. Non-flammible would be nice too. I want to be legal and safe. It might not be good PR for my brand if I blow myself up or get busted by revenuers. thanks Brad Irwin, Oregon Spirit Distillers
  13. I have had several inspections from the Department of Agriculture who governs us instead of the FDA. He had many of the same concerns; flow, recall batch records. The first time he came through he had us make several changes, all of which I thought were ridiculous. After our first year half the suggested changes appeared as good ideas. I don't like the inspection process but I always learn something and am a better facility as a result. Brad Irwin, Oregon Spirit Distillers
  14. Fruit spirits are fantastic. When handling fresh fruit you have several days to mash it. Grain can be stored all year 'round. Fruit is pretty expensive. We have found that only some consumers are willing to pay the premium you have to get for using fruit. Clear Creek sure has made a great line of spirits based on fruit however.
  15. We use Universal Packaging. I have been impressed with every project we have done together. Nicole (the person I work with from Unipak) has never failed to deliver what she promised when she promised. Brad Irwin Oregon Spirit Distillers
  16. A local barley farmer approached me interested in malting his barley for us (and the other local breweries). Does anyone have a suggestion for an equipment manufacturer for him? Thanks in advance, Brad Irwin Oregon Spirit Distillers
  17. I have not seen your business plan but I know that there are two things you need more of: floor drains and capital.
  18. I went to the city code enforcement officer to request a voluntary inspection. He said that it was not necessary, we are with in the code for emissions for our LI zone. I am currently in compliance with the TTB, OLCC, IFC, IBC, IRS, City of Bend, Oregon Dept. of Aggriculture, OSHA, and my wife's opinion. This as been an interesting experience
  19. We had a surprise fire inspection yesterday. We passed! I figured we would there would be know issues but I am never excited by an inspection. We are going to do voluntary compliance inspections with the city so that we can lay this issue to rest. I will report the results.
  20. In Oregon (control state) the price calculated with a per case fee in addition to the state tax. We switched to 12 packs because it lowered the price to consumers. 12 packs are twice as heavy as 6 packs though.
  21. Pete thanks for making me laugh. This is an industrial warehouse with 10 units 2100 square feet (what is that in square meters) units with 30 foot ceilings. I have 2 units. He makes, wholesales and retails fly rods. He was there first although I did ask him if he had any problem with a distillery next door.
