chrismielke
I found this recipe in the archives of this forum and my question was - does a Carter Head on a still actually support the amount of botanicals this recipe suggests? Is there a suggested weight capacity on Carter Heads? Thanks in advance. ==== In Dr. Muspratt's "Chemistry, Theoretical, Practical, and Analytical," the following receipts from the note-book of an extensive distilling rectifier are given."For a Fine Gin, take960 gallons of spirit, hydrometer proof.96 lbs. German juniper berries6 lbs. coriander seeds.4 lbs. grains of paradise.4 lbs. angelica root.2 lbs. orris root.2 lbs. calamus root.2 lbs. orange peel. whiskeytango
My question is how much is 960 gallons of spirit, hydrometer proof.?
nabtastic
Given the date published, I would assume 50% / 100 P guaranteed by hydrometer as opposed to gunpowder and spirit.
SpiritedConsultant
Given that it is a UK text, I think that 100 proof would be 57.15% abv. The 2:1 ratio wasn't really used in the UK.
TheMechWarrior
I wouldn't make any more than a litre of that recipe, don't waste too much of your good spirit on it As for your carter head question they will carry what you can fit in them.
