Adam
Can anyone with experience tell me if it is legal to aquire a new 100 gal still before filing any paperwork with the ttb? I will be filling paperwork in april or may but would like to have the equipment in hand to avoid delays. Nothing will be set up or taken out of shipping crates in advance of filing but ttb laws seem so convoluted and contradictory I cant quite figure if this is legal. Suggestions and experiences appreciated.
philf34
TTB wants a serial # off the still on the application. So yes you can have the still but can't turn it on until you have all your licenses, both fed and state.
bluefish_dist
In fact the ttb expects you to have the equipment at the time you apply. Part of the application is listing all your equipment and serial numbers.
Falling Rock
Some States, it is illegal to have possession of a still without a license. I wrote a letter to the State Alcohol Control Board with a series of questions and it was one of my questions. As long as I was making my intent known and not using the still, it was o.k. Huffy2k
My still has been in a shipping crate in the basement of my distillery building since October. Still waiting on TTB approval for my DSP - submitted application on 9/15/2015.
Packersfan1964
We were able to apply AND get our TTB without a still. Our internal guy at the TTB just had us put a placeholder on the application.
