PA_JoeDistiller
TTB guidelines state that Gin's predominant flavor must come from juniper. This seems extremely open-ended. If I were to make basically an herbal liquor with juniper only making up a minuscule component of the mash/basket could it still be legally called a gin? glisade
What I've been told is that when you submit a Gin formula, the TTB looks to see that Juniper is the largest by weight botanical of your formula. Since doesn't prove a predominant juniper flavor but that's their only way to get an estimate. Ron
bluestar
Ron is correct. Generally, won't consider flavor proper unless they receive consumer complaints. IMHO, there are plenty of gins out there that shouldn't qualify as gins based on flavor, because you wouldn't know there was any juniper in there.
