  1. I just found a place locally that we negotiated for $3 / lb... great deal thanks everyone
  2. Presque seemed to have it, at a decent price to.. but their website doesnt allow me to add anything to a cart... i sent a tech support inquiry. thanks for the leads.
  3. Hey all, just wondering if anyone has a good source for Diammonium Phosphate. Some of the pricing i've found is ridiculous Need about 14-16 lbs thx
  4. 4 posts deep huh? Perhaps you could elaborate as to why you think the carbac pads are a waste of money? have you used them before with bad results? im sure we could all benefit from you sharing your experience. I am working with guseman right now in doing samples with their pads. I sent a sample of rum and vodka for labtop samples to see what the results might be, as well as scheduled a scaled up test. Right now my process is to dump a bunch of powdered activated carbon in the tank, circulate it for a few hours, then let it sit on the carbon for about 24 hrs before the pain in the ass task of filtering it... so anything i can do to improve this process is a welcome change. its one of the main reasons we are looking at the carbon impregnated pads.
  5. I just put the heads from my last Gin run in my wiper fluid container... i figure, i really only need it for de-icing while im in tahoe... and now i have a nice juniper smell to boot, instead of the blue stuff
  6. Yes you do... we use powdered carbon ( KBB) to strip our vodka.. and let me tell you.. its a HUGE PITA... the good news is, the ratio of powder to liquid is quite low... but you make up for it in time spent changing clogged filter pads. Im trying to find a solution right now to replace our carbon powder.
  7. Had i thought about this all sooner, i would have reached out in time. As of now, im headed out to Ft collins this afternoon, gonna kick around there all weekend, Tour de Fat, hiking/disc golf, and maybe some hunting, then ill be back in denver ( or specifically aurora) monday afternoon. I have tuesday free, was gonna maybe try to play golf, but that could change into a distillery day too, then i take off back to the bay area weds morning. Im sure ill be back out to CO sometime though, and i will make sure to call out ahead of time. Congrats on the move Jordan, wish you the best with the new project. I hope CO is easier to work with than CA is.
  8. Dang coop... I just checked where Cedaredge was on the map and i just dont think ill be headed down that far this trip. I will always have family "here" though, so its very possible that im out to visit again, and maybe then i can plan on a visit. thanks for the invite though. I hope i get to take you up on it sometime.
  9. Hey all. I'm visiting some family in denver today, but will be in ft collins this weekend for tour de fat, was hoping maybe to stop in and visit at a distillery or to, just to see what's going on in colorado. Ill be back in denver on monday until wednesday. Anyone game to host a tour for a fellow distiller Cheers Dave
  10. Hello goldfish, have you introduced yourself to the forum yet? might be a good idea, just to get things rolling. Cheers
  11. So we have 4 used 6yr old bourbon barrels that we are planning on using for our aged rum program. We have never done an aged spirit so we are going strictly by what we have read and heard from other distilllers. but small questions keep coming up... such as Do you fill the barrel all the way ( 58+ gallons) or do you leave a little breathing room. Also, we've read that most cask strength rum is 130 proof into the barrel, anyone have any experience otherwise? Any advice is much appreciated.
  12. While i have nothing of real value to add to this thread... i just wanted to give out a golf clap. This thread is a fascinating read, with historical and contemporary points. I am thankful to be part of a collective so rich in knowledge and passion for our craft.
  13. I dont know how big your place is, but we have about 2500 sq ft, we use a few of these guys... works every time http://www.ratzapper.org/ you put in a little dog kibble, cheese-its or whatever in there without turning it on, check every day to see if its gone, as soon as it is u know the animal knows its safe to eat there and will return. Reset the trap then turn it on... we have had a mouse/rat in it every time.
  14. Tell him alcohol isnt regulated by FDA at all, its TTB, and to quit draggin his heels and get to work! Im assuming youre dealing with mice near the grains? Id be leery of using any chemical sprays near something i was going to distill though.
  15. I feel like Matt Rowley might have something to say on this matter. We have been making bierschnaps since 1998, as as near as i can tell, we're the first distillery in recent US history to have produced it, given that the BATF ( who was "running" things 10 years ago) had no idea what a bierschnaps was, and tried to regulate us as though we were literally making rocket fuel.
  16. Great info and discussions here guys! and thanks for the reminder that we are in this together, to an extent. Civility is a wonderful thing.
  17. we have about 10 stainless steel drums (closed top) for sale. Always rinsed, and have only ever had high proof or bottle proof alcohol in them. $400 a piece. buyer pays shipping from Bay Area, California Send PM or reply if interested.
  18. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has found an economical source for bulk simple syrup, or at the very least high quality evaporate raw cane sugar? doing some dabbling and want to see if i can scale up this next project. Cheers DCJ
  19. Thanks for the great info. My project is over, and we ended up not using the wax, but i will definitely refer back to this thread if another project comes along. Cheers! Dave
  20. The Filter has 2 x 1.5" TC connections with butterfly valves built in. We get our filters from GW Kent http://wineryparts.com/index.php/equipment/filtration/filter-sheets.html
  21. Hey all, We are thinking of upgrading our filtration process, so im just putting out a feeler to see if anyone is looking for a Plate and Frame Filter. The model is the Velo FPS 40x40 which takes a 40cm deep filter pad. We are lookin to get about $4500 for ours. She has worked well for us in the past, but we are increasing production so are looking for something bigger. Here are equivalent ones at TCW http://www.tcw-web.com/Products/Filters/SheetFilters.htm that go for about $4600.
  22. Has anyone discussed how this co-op would work? some person handles the bulk purchase and storage of a container load of glass and then what, is responsible for shipping out to whomever else is in the co-op? I think we are all interested in paying less for glass, or achieving bulk pricing, but has their been any discussion about the logistics?
  23. Hey Payton... I just paid via paypal... but i never got a link to DL the software. Did i miss something?
