100 gallon electric pot still

Made in Maine

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

We just wanted to share a photo of the 100 gallon pot still that was advertised here and sold. It has 11Kw of immersion heaters with independant adjustable temp switches. It has a support plate for packing if desired. It has a welded copper helmet and lyne arm. Please let us know if you'd like something like this. The next is on the shop floor and we will post pictures when they are ready. Its sold too, but we are continually building others. Hopefully we can fill a void in the market. Used tanks refurbished into beautiful stills. why not?

What is the price as shown?

Tom,

This still will be reproduced and will sell for $28,960. We can make some changes if needed without affecting cost substantially if at all. The overall height if only 7 feet. This was done per our discussion with the customers. It puts the parrot a bit lower than we liked. We can raise it for no money during the next build. The manway is an 8", which is plenty big to fill and clean through, but I'd rather have one that you could climb through. Not a big deal there. The control stradegy is very simple. It is 24 volts through the E-stop and on/off switches and 240 volt heaters. The temperature switches are run with 24 volts and are adjustable independantly. For this size still the requirement is a knife lock 60 amp disconnect at 250 volts. Of course water supply and drain. The drain valve is a positionable butterfly 2" TC connection. The PRV/VAC breaker is connected with 2" TC. The heaters are also connected through a 3" TC connection for ease of cleaning. They dont need to be disconnected since the Liquidtight conduit is flexable enough to allow the swing. We built this still for ourselves as if we were going to use it, like we will every one we do. If its not good enough for us, its not good enough for our customers.

That looks awesome! How long does it take to get 100 gallons up to a boil?

Cheers,

Brad,

Thanks much! We like it too! Wished we didnt sell it,lol! All good, it takes about 2-2.5 hours, depending on ambient temperature and what you are boiling. Just kidding, after two hours, normally heads will be off and you'd be on to hearts, roughly. Run time will depend on the user and the spirit. Its insulated for efficiency. The helmet can be removed in about 5 minutes, depending on how many thumbs you have. Opposing digits are handy within limits. Current lead time for building one is about 4-6 weeks. This time will increase as orders come in.

Any thoughts on putting bubble cap plates that can be flipped open and closed in the column instead of allowing for packing?

Panama Jack,

Good to hear from you again. We have put bubble caps in a laboratory sized still with great results. The were fixed but removable. not by-passable. The complexity that adding moving parts to a vapor tight system requires engineering hours and other resources. That said, We love a challenge. If this is something you would like to discuss, I'd love to talk it through, if you are interested in pursueing one. For conversation sake, We could make the bubble caps in modular units the could be added or subtracted one at a time. A section of these would be traded out for a "spool" piece to run like the caps were opened. This could be done while the unit is down in about 5 minutes. The cap sections could be hand cleaned like doing a small load of dishes, maybe even in a dish washer. Then assembled and ready for the next use.

Currently I am trying to fit 169 hours into a standard week...almost there!

Very nice, a couple of questions, if you don't mind. The heating elements are they directly in contact with the wash? If so how does one over come burning the wash and/or botanicals if they are in the pot? Thanks.

Pete,

Yes the elements are in direct contact with the wash. I have had product from a distillery that was nothing less than excellent that was produced in a still that was heated with the same heater elements. I had their Rum, Whiskey and Corn Whiskey. All very good... (hiccup),bought some for home too. The botanicals might need to be "tea-bagged" if ther is a specific concern. also, we have a Botanicals basket too.

Beautiful. Can the still be used as a mash cooker as well?
