BuffaloBink
Hello All, Whats are thoughts on sizing retorts in comparison to your main still? How big/small should the first and second retort be? I understand that its going to depend on what you are deciding to make and the style but as a general rule, how do you size? JohnJacob
We use two 30 gallon capacity retorts on a 150 gallon kettle to make or Double Gold (SFWSC) Rum.

Southernhighlander
Your retort should be at least 1/3 the size of your still pot for the best results.
BuffaloBink
Thank you for the response. That seems to be the answer I was looking for and found within my research. Anyone running double retorts in the states?
Brewstilla
On a smaller rig I've run in the past, I have used half the size of the boiler for the first and a third the size of the boiler for the second and it ran great with nothing more than parasitic heat
BuffaloBink
Thank you. I think 1/3 should be ok.
