  1. hoochware has limitations and odd quirks.  Why require and use volume measurements when everything is done by weight?  Can't handle sugar additions for liqueurs and similar.

X5 costs a little more, but does what hoochware could not.  The difference I think is hoochware was built by a programmer, but X5 was built by a distiller.  It shows in the details.

n 2017, testing was done to all of the spirits submitted to the ADI spirit competition and 80% of the vodka submitted had chemicals in them that indicated that it had not been distilled above the 95% alcohol required to call them vodka

Well I find that fascinating.  As in, what kind of chemicals will come over at 94.9% and not 95% ?  wot kinda witchcraft be that??

  3. For those selling custom flasks, do you sell more stainless or leather wrapped?

I'm contemplating offering one of my products in a flask, curious how others do with flasks, empty or filled.

Oh, how much do you charge if you don't mind sharing.

Since you are ready to move on from the Mori I probably shouldn't even post this! :)

But I will anyway in case it helps someone else having issues with a Mori. We had issues with short bottles that we were filling for someone else. Ended up solving it by building a wood platform that sat on the metal Mori platform. The key to getting consistent bottle level fills with the Mori is to make certain that the bottle pushes the sleeve above the oval opening. That was the only way we could get the bottle high enough to push the sleeve up far enough.

We also modified our Mori by adding infinite adjustability on the platform by welding in screws that raise and lower the level of the bottle platform. We can now fine tune the fill height to a very accurate level. I will be happy to post pics if anyone is interested.

We fill 3 - 4 thousand bottles per week all year around on our little Mori.

Please post pics of your modification.

  5. fyi, the xpressfill level filler nozzles can fill independently.  Using the volumetric filler is setting yourself up for unlevel fills across bottles.  Your bottles most likely will not be identical especially if there's a narrow neck.

Great post. Just got my surety bond through HUB International. 300.00 for the year, about 1/2 of what the other vendors quoted. Quick service as well. Now I can finally submit to state, had fed permit since January. The locals have been holding me up at every space on the dang form. I am the first distillery ever in our county and no one in local government has a clue what to do with us.  hopefully making rum VERY SOON

You realize you don't need a ttb bond for up to $50,000 in expected tax payments annually?  Which is a lot of cases a year.
