  1. Yeah i get using someone certified, its just if they are off then you are off, and when the TTb comes knocking at your door because you are off what good does a certificate that says its accurate do for you? You are still off in the end.
  2. Anyone out there use a consultant to help you get your Gin recipe ironed out? Recommendations?
  3. I figured it was something like this, So basically some guy or gal looks takes it, puts it in a known proof and says "ok this one is .3 off" ? What happens if they get it wrong and its really .5 off and then you proof all your stuff off? seems like there is a lot of room for human error. That in the end if your spirit is off your at fault.
  4. How exactly do you go about calibrating a hydrometer? You cant just add or take away weight in order to make it float at the right level its a sealed glass tube. Not that im going to try to do it just wondering.
  5. Been reading a lot on the home distilling sites about airing out their product prior to proofing/drinking/bottling. Just wondering in the commercial world if this is common practice of if you just go strait to the bottle after proofing? Or are them specific spirits that you will air out, maybe your white whiskeys but not necessarily your vodka due to the filtering?
  6. Id say you can expect about 190-225 750ml bottles at 80 proof every time you run your still. So just take that times how ever many times you run per week.
  7. So if i am reading this right and im probably not the limit for storage is 240 gallons with sprinklers? I have been to multiple places where they have had much more than this. Some I have seen have had 4x this amount (4 X 275 gallon totes of GNS) How do these guys do this if the limit is 240? Seems like one tote would put you over it.
  8. Hey just wondering how much space everyone has? Maybe what you have now and what you started with? I know it all depends on what your making as far as having needing storage space for barrels and such if your going the aged route. Also for the sake of this lets leave out your tasting room and any non bonded areas, offices, bathrooms and such.
  9. Who do you go with for your insurance? Looking for recommendations for an affordable, knowledgeable agent who is familiar with DSP's. Thanks
  10. Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a TTB consultant to assist in getting our Federal permits in order? Just trying to judge if we want to pay some money and have someone else do it or save a little cash and try and hammer it out on our own.
  11. When re distilling GNS to making gin do you have to make head and tale cuts?
  12. Just wondering if you can offer up any more info on this posting. When do you plan on starting up production? When would you need someone to start?
