Bakhmut as a city no longer exists, certain areas are not subject to restoration, and the offensive potential of the invaders is not exhausted.

As the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kirill Budanov said during the information telethon, the Russians are suffering huge losses there.

"The military situation there is not catastrophic. If you are interested in my impression, there is a catastrophe with the city itself ... In my opinion, it no longer exists as a city. Certain areas are definitely not subject to restoration. The invaders absolutely destroyed, made the whole city unsuitable for life" , - he said.

"The Russian invaders are suffering huge losses there. You have probably seen a lot of videos on the Internet, fields of corpses, when a corpse is put on a corpse, like a sandbag - this is the real truth," Budanov said.

However, Budanov noted, the offensive potential of the Russian invaders is not exhausted.

"Yes, it cannot run out. They constantly call on new people. They rush in waves. Waves are coming: the first wave of people is mowed down - there is another, then the next, and so on ... The mobilization resource in Russia is very significant. They can still call on people very long," Budanov added.

On December 29, 2022, the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kirill Budanov, announced that the war in Ukraine had reached a stalemate. In his opinion, the Kremlin decided to announce another mobilization of conscripts.

On December 31, 2022, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, in a video message to the Russians on New Year's Eve, said that they had only a week left to leave the territory of the Russian Federation.

"On the eve of the new year, I appeal to Russian citizens who are liable for military service. First of all, this concerns residents of large Russian cities. I know for sure that you have about one week left, while there is still at least some choice. In early January, Russian the authorities will close the borders for men, then they will declare martial law and start another wave of mobilization. The borders will also be closed to Belarus," Reznikov said.

Ukrainian intelligence predicts that as early as January 5, a new wave of mobilization will begin in Russia to replenish the army.

Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov said that the army of the Russian Federation will be able to recover from losses in the war in Ukraine in at least five years.

Explosions were also heard in Kyiv. The mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, said that as a result of the Russian attack on civilian facilities in the capital, one person died and 20 were injured. 14 people were hospitalized, six doctors provided assistance on the spot.

After a massive missile attack during the day, Russia launched kamikaze drones into Ukraine. On the evening of December 31, a few hours before the New Year, the Russian Federation attacked the south of Ukraine with kamikaze drones. It was reported that two groups of "Shaheds" flew in.

And on the night of January 1, 2023, an air alert was announced throughout Ukraine. The head of the Kyiv regional military administration, Oleksiy Kuleba, reported that air defense was working in the Kiev region. At the same time, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko stressed that the explosions in the capital are the consequences of air defense.

As a result of a massive Russian attack by Iranian UAVs, 39 Shahed-131/136 were destroyed by the Air Defense Forces.

Anti-aircraft missile units, fighter aircraft of the Air Force and mobile fire groups were involved in repelling the attack. More and more actively involved equipment and weapons provided to Ukraine by Western partners.

In addition, the sky defenders destroyed two UAVs of the operational-tactical level "Orlan-10" and a guided missile Kh-59.

The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, citing the data of the air defense forces, writes that 40 Russian-Iranian drones were heading for Kyiv.

"15 (enemy UAVs - ed.) were destroyed over neighboring regions, 3 - in the Kiev region and 22 drones - over the capital," the mayor of Kyiv noted.

In the Nikolaev region, in turn, they note that in the region, air defense forces managed to "land" six enemy drones "Shahed-136", one more - by the soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Iranian UAVs got into the energy infrastructure of Kyiv. Emergency blackouts have been introduced in the city, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said.

Water supply is carried out in the regular mode.

"As a result of the night shelling of the capital, energy infrastructure facilities were damaged. There were emergency power outages in the city. Accordingly, there are de-energized heat supply facilities. The capital is supplied with water in the normal mode," Klitschko wrote.

Ukraine has created its own intelligence and information network to coordinate combat units on the battlefield. The Ukrainian network turned out to be cheaper than its American counterpart, which took the Pentagon decades and billions of dollars to create, writes The Wall Street Journal.

https://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/ukraine-has-digitized-its-fighting-forces-on-a-shoestring-11672741405?mod=latest_headlines

"Kyiv's impromptu network of drones, fighter jets and weapons, linked via satellite links and special software, gives its soldiers a level of intelligence, coordination and precision that allows the force to circle around Russia's initially outnumbered and outgunned but clumsy Russian armies," he said. writes the publication.

It is noted that the Ukrainian system is built mainly on ready-made equipment and is generally inferior to the American one. But the capabilities of the Pentagon are superior to Ukrainian resources, the authors admit.

At the same time, Western military experts assure that the West can learn important lessons from the Ukrainian experience. Especially with regard to the readiness of Ukrainians to experiment and involve non-military specialists.

People in Ukraine get used to everything...

Spring 2022: Something exploded near the house, quickly rolled off the bed onto the floor, crawled over the wall...

Summer 2022: I woke up from a call on my mobile phone, they ask me "there is something next to you that exploded, are you OK?" ...

Autumn 2022: I woke up on my own, I found out that a couple of hours ago Something exploded not far from the house. Went to have breakfast...

Winter 2022: Something exploded near the house, quickly ran to the kitchen and made a kettle of coffee, and poured it into a thermos. Hurry before the electricity is turned off. Then he went to sleep...

... I don’t even know whether to cry or laugh ...

Journalists from the American edition of the New York Times published an investigation into sexual violence against Ukrainian civilians in the de-occupied territories by Russian soldiers.

In particular, there is evidence that Russian commanders knew about the rapes or even encouraged them, writes the New York Times, citing Irina Didenko, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office in charge of sexual assault cases. In some cases, according to Didenko, they gave orders to rape or gave instructions to "go relax."

Didenko says there is a clear pattern of behavior when Russian troops occupy territory: "Ground troops arrive, and on the second or third day the rapes start."

Russia has already used 660 Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones out of 1,750 pieces that appear in the contract.

This was announced by the military-political observer Alexander Kovalenko, recalling that the Russian Federation could have left up to 50 drones from the second batch.

"Roughly speaking, the total number of drones of the first and second batches is 700 units. That is, the batch is 350 drones. Iran can produce an average of fifty Shahed-136 and Shahed-131 drones per month, or, in total, about a hundred. Thus, , it takes them up to three months to form a party," Kovalenko calculated.

Kovalenko suggested that Iran could increase the production staff and thereby increase the production rate of drones, but even so, Iran will not be able to close the contract until six months later, the observer is sure:
"That is, in the summer, Russian troops will continue to terrorize Ukraine with kamikaze drones from the last batch

In order to protect only important centers, Ukraine needs at least ten Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.

This opinion was expressed by aviation expert Valery Romanenko. According to him, one Patriot SAM battery needs a staff of 90 people, Channel 24 reports.

He noted that one SAM battery, which the United States promised to transfer to Ukraine, would only partially strengthen air defense.

The expert also spoke about the timing of the training of Ukrainian military personnel to maintain the complex. Romanenko is confident that they will be able to learn in six months, although it usually takes twice as long.

"Our officers are already more or less familiar with NASAMS systems, with IRIS-T systems. The only thing that will be difficult for them to master is radars with new operating principles," the expert added.

Photos of the components of the Russian 9М544 RSZV "Tornado-S" rocket have appeared online.
  - Microcircuits based on TSOP66
  - SMD capacitors
  - DB15 and SMA connectors
  - LQFP64 microchips
None of this is produced in Russia. And this is not military electronics, it is, relatively speaking, Ali Express.
Two conclusions can be drawn here:
1. Russian rockets are made almost of shit and sticks
2. They can purchase these elements relatively calmly and now, without any sanctions. So you shouldn't expect that the Russians will ever run out of missiles. :(
This war can be eternal...

"Appeasement" by the West of Moscow due to the destruction of Ukraine - the path to the Third World War

"Putin's New Year's gifts to fraternal Ukraine" in the form of a series of missile and drone strikes, and even not very "successful", further exposed the increasingly glaring problem of a lack of resources, primarily strike and long-range weapons in order to achieve a radical turning point in the war and end it in our favor as soon as possible, since further destruction of the country by war is fraught with the destruction of Ukraine in its current understanding. But one gets the impression that the strategy and tactics of the West, on which, unfortunately, we are critically dependent, is to “appease” Moscow at the cost of all or part of Ukraine in order to avoid the Third World War, although historical experience suggests that attempts “appeasing” aggressors like Putin could have catastrophic consequences on a global scale.
The situation is heated up by yet another series in an endless series of publications in the Western media and statements by Western characters, even those who seem to unambiguously support Ukraine. Well, or they pretend to support them, because it’s generally difficult to understand them there, because practice shows that the saying “the East is a delicate matter” is very often even more applicable to the West itself. These commentators question the reality of Ukraine's victory in the form of the restoration of its constitutional borders, while stating that the West deliberately does not provide weapons to Ukraine in sufficient quantities and of the required quality, and also uses Ukraine as a kind of "expendable material" for "appeasement" of Putin's Russia, including by exhausting it and "zeroing out" its military and economic resources. And such a strategy is pernicious.
It will not work to sit out in the West!
After all, it’s not enough that Putin’s achievement in Ukraine of some success will provoke Moscow to continue aggression, and NATO countries from Eastern Europe may become the next victims of aggression, as a result of which the alliance will be drawn into a war with Moscow with the prospect of its escalation into a nuclear one, which NATO is in a panic afraid. But having received a “bad but contagious” example in the form of a certain success of Putin’s aggression in the center of Europe “under the very nose” of NATO, many people around the world can start local conflicts to revise borders and redistribute territories, and then no Western resource will be enough in order to calm all this down, with the dangerous prospect of a number of local conflicts escalating into some kind of global one, again, fraught with escalation into a nuclear one.
In particular, there is an opinion among a number of Western commentators that it is Putin’s failure in Ukraine that, although not the only one, is one of the most important factors preventing China from attacking Taiwan, which Beijing considers its “canonical territory” in much the same way as Moscow. - Ukraine. The conflict with China over Taiwan is considered a nightmare in America and in the West in general, since the lion's share of the production of semiconductor devices is located on this island, without which the global economy can stop. Not to mention the fact that the rise of China in the Pacific region can generally change the global balance of power on the planet.
In turn, observing Moscow’s hysterical and unsuccessful attempts to achieve at least minimal success in Ukraine, the Chinese leadership, led by Xi Jinping, is aware that the attack on Taiwan, separated from the mainland by more than 150 kilometers, is stuffed with high-precision missile weapons and air defense systems, is fraught with such a fiasco for Beijing that the entire “communist capitalism” of the Celestial Empire can stagger, especially since, unlike Ukraine, the States promise to support Taiwan in the most categorical way.

Simply put, the actual failure of Putin's "special military operation" in Ukraine greatly tempered Beijing's ardor, saved Taiwan from a possible attack from mainland China, and accordingly, saved the States from being drawn into an extremely unnecessary conflict with China, in general, saved Southeast Asia and the whole world from a very real conflict over Taiwan with an unpredictable end.
Finally, one gets the impression that Putin's failure in Ukraine saved the Chinese leadership and all of China from being drawn into a very dangerous adventure, the tragic consequences of which are difficult to predict. In this sense, a somewhat calming factor can only be the fact that, as it finally became clear with the beginning of Putin's aggression in Ukraine, the Chinese ruling elite is much more adequate than its Moscow counterparts.
And in general, if Putin’s plans to seize Ukraine and / or any significant part of it, including the capital, were realized in one form or another somewhere else in the spring of 2022, it seems that much in this world would already be completely different.
Having managed to stop and partially repulse Putin's aggression, even with the most active help of Western allies, Ukraine, at least, has stopped many destructive processes in the world, fraught with dire consequences. The West seems to understand this, but retaliatory actions, primarily Western assistance to Ukraine, can hardly be called adequate.
New Year's gifts "grandfather Poo"
New Year's air attacks by Moscow with missiles and drones on Ukraine have once again clearly confirmed this.
These attacks began on December 29, 2022, when, according to official reports, 69 air- and sea-based missiles of the Kh-101, Kh-555 and Kalibr types were fired on the territory of Ukraine, and 54 missiles were shot down. Thus, 15 missiles nevertheless reached their target, causing significant damage, including tragic consequences for the life and health of citizens.
In addition, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, during the morning attack on December 29, 11 Shahed-131/136 UAVs were destroyed.
In addition, on the night of December 29, 16 Shahid-type drones were launched in Ukraine, of which 7 units flew to Kyiv. Drones flew from the southeast and gray direction along the Dnieper at low altitude to reduce radar visibility.
From the latest report of the Air Force, we can conclude that drones are launched not only from the territory of the Krasnodar Territory (southeast), where, according to some reports, launchers were removed from Crimea. Obviously, they are also launched from Belarus, since there seems to be nowhere to launch them more from the north along the Dnieper.

The intensified drone attacks of the “Moscow-Tehran spill” indicate that, at least in part, the cooperation between Iran and Russia continues, which was discussed in a series of articles that began with the publication “Drones Attacks. Why can’t Ukraine adequately respond to “Iranian moped-type geraniums”?” (https://enovosty.com/.../ataki-dronov-pochemu-ukraina-ne...), and then continued with the articles “How Putin is swindling the Iranian ayatollahs, or the “Ziher” of Moscow-Tehran military cooperation” (https ://enovosty.com/.../2511-kak-putin-oxmuryaet...) and "Moscow-Tehran: chronicles of international sanctions and a new round of Iranian-Russian bargaining" (https://enovosty.com/.. ./1712-moskva-tegeran-xroniki...). This cooperation also testifies, to put it mildly, to the weakness of the international sanctions regime against Tehran and Moscow.
And although after the start of drone attacks in October 2022, they learned how to deal with them, some of them still reach their targets and cause significant technical and economic damage, and also pose a real threat to people's life and health.
Moscow's air strikes on Ukraine continued on December 31 on New Year's Eve, with the express purpose of ruining the holiday and sowing panic. And if Putin's bastards managed to spoil the holiday, then the panic obviously did not work out.
According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, on December 31, Russia launched more than 20 cruise missiles in Ukraine. Enemy missiles were launched from Tu-95 missile-carrying aircraft from the Caspian Sea, as well as from ground-based missile systems. Of these, 12 missiles were shot down, and 6 - within the Kyiv region, 5 - from Zhytomyr, 1 - in the Khmelnytsky region.
At the same time, according to the mayor of the capital, some damage was done to the infrastructure of Kyiv, due to which about 30% of consumers were without electricity on the eve of the New Year. In addition, traffic was temporarily suspended on one of the “open” metro lines, on which fragments of rockets fell. There were destructions in four districts of the capital, and damage was done to other regions of the country.
The saddest thing is that on New Year's Eve, as a result of rocket strikes in the capital alone, one person died and 20 people were injured.
But Putin's troops did not rest on this, continuing to carry out air strikes on the first day of the new year.
According to official data, on January 1, 2023, the enemy launched 31 missile and 12 air strikes. The infrastructure of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Khmelnytsky, Donetsk, Zaporozhye, Nikolaev and Kherson regions suffered.
On New Year's Eve, 45 enemy drones were shot down over Ukraine. According to the Air Force, 13 of them were destroyed on December 31 and another 32 after midnight. According to some reports, all these 32 drones were shot down over Kyiv and the region, and the raid of Shahids on Kyiv began right during the celebration of the New Year and lasted several hours. That is, in a fit of inadequacy, the enemy, under the leadership of Putin and his clique, clearly set the task of spoiling Ukraine's New Year's holiday, perhaps hoping to catch our air defense by surprise, but the last enemy failed.
Therefore, on the night of January 1-2, another massive drone attack was delivered to Ukraine. According to the command of the Air Force, all 39 attack UAVs were destroyed by the air defense forces and fire groups, two drones of the Orlan-10 operational-tactical level and a Kh-59 guided missile were also shot down.
But despite the statements about the destruction of drones, according to the mayor's office of Kyiv, the infrastructure facilities of the capital suffered damage. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko admitted that energy facilities were damaged, so emergency power outages were introduced in the city on the morning of January 2, and there were also interruptions in the operation of the metro.

Move from defense to attack
These reports quite justifiably push the idea that the strategy of combating Moscow's aggression is initially wrong, or rather incomplete. The author of these lines is far from giving advice to the military, but still some thoughts should be expressed.
Admittedly, Ukrainian air defense shows brilliant results in the fight against cruise missiles and drones. Hardly anyone in the world can now surpass our fighters in this.
True, if the enemy starts using ballistic missiles, then problems may arise, but this is a separate issue. Fortunately, the enemy simply does not yet have such missiles in the required quantity, and if Iran nevertheless refuses to supply them, it is unlikely to happen, as was discussed in the publication “Moscow-Tehran: Chronicles of International Sanctions and a New Round of Iranian-Russian auction" (https://enovosty.com/.../1712-moskva-tegeran-xroniki...).
But even a non-specialist understands that it is simply impossible to completely block the sky with air defense systems, and even in such a large country by European standards as Ukraine. And here it becomes obvious that in addition to purely defensive tactics in the form of air defense defense, it is necessary to move on to strike-offensive actions in the form of strikes against those objects from which the enemy attacks Ukraine by air.
Air-launched missiles are launched from Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic missile carriers, as well as Tu-22M3 long-range missile carriers. These aircraft can be based and serviced only at certain airfields, including those not far from our borders. Their basing at airfields more distant from Ukraine leads to a significant decrease in the effectiveness of their use, but we will not go into these details.
These bases should be attacked with drones and missiles of the required range, which has already been partly demonstrated by attacks on airfields in the Saratov and Ryazan regions.
In the same way, it is necessary to carry out precise air strikes against the bases of the Black Sea Fleet, presumably in the area of Novorossiysk, where the loading of naval carriers with Kalibr-type missiles is carried out. And in the same way, it is necessary to strike at places where drone launchers are located, presumably in Belarus and the Kuban.
After all, it is much more effective to deprive the enemy of the ability to deliver air strikes by destroying the corresponding bases than to block the sky over a large country, and then eliminate the consequences of arrivals at infrastructure facilities, not to mention the danger to the life and health of citizens.
For this, Ukraine desperately and urgently needs means capable of delivering strikes at a distance of up to 1000 km. These can be ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, and preferably all these means at once, depending on the conditions of use in a particular case.

These funds can and must be provided to us by the Western allies, in fact the States. If only because it was thanks to them that Ukraine once disarmed, left without means of deterrence.

Ukraine should no longer be a bargaining chip, or give us weapons!
On the whole, the war has reached a dead end, and the main reason is that Ukraine does not have sufficient quantity and quality of forces and means to make a radical change in the war with the subsequent expulsion of the enemy from our territory.
This is now being said by many domestic and foreign commentators, including those who hold responsible positions.
In particular, recently the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Budanov, in an interview with the Air Force, said that military operations in Ukraine had reached a dead end due to the fact that neither Ukraine nor Russia could achieve significant success.
According to Budanov, the Ukrainian armed forces still lack the resources to move forward in many areas.
“We cannot defeat them in all areas comprehensively. And so do they. We are looking forward to new deliveries of weapons and the arrival of more advanced weapons,” the head of the GUR said.
But the West still refuses to supply Ukraine with more powerful offensive and strike weapons. According to the American publication Politico, during a visit to the United States, Vladimir Zelensky asked Biden to give Ukraine long-range missiles, but the American leadership once again refused, fearing a hypothetical nuclear conflict with Moscow.
A similar opinion was expressed by the former commander of NATO forces in Europe, Wesley Clark, who, during a webinar "US-Ukraine" on December 29, with truly soldierly bluntness, said that Washington was bleeding Ukraine and destroying its economy by refusing massive deliveries of artillery, long-range missiles and aircraft.
According to him, the US is entering a stalemate by denying Ukraine massive supplies of artillery, long-range missiles and aircraft. In addition, this approach undermines Ukraine's strategic ability to maintain its statehood.
“If we switch to military terminology, we are bleeding Ukraine. They suffer losses, lose critical infrastructure, energy, their industrial capacities. And they are losing their economic basis as a nation state, and we are helping them bleed,” Clark rightly said.
“Meanwhile, the Russians are changing the nature of the conflict. They are making more serious defense efforts. That is, the nature of hostilities is changing,” says the retired general.
He criticized the statements of the US command that Ukrainians will be taught to fight with a shortage of artillery at the expense of tactics, as mentioned by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. According to Clark, this is an artillery war, since it is no longer possible to bypass the fortifications built by the opponents - trenches, trenches or "dragon's teeth".
“This is no longer an open battlefield like last summer, which means a lot more firepower is needed. More bombers, munitions loitering, long-range strikes,” Clark said.

The incomparability of the resources of Ukraine and Russia increasingly raises the question that our country cannot and should not continue to be destroyed and annihilated for the sake of someone else's interests, even if these are the interests of those who are now considered our allies and provide us with great help.
Ukraine urgently needs a radical change and an end to the war on conditions acceptable to Ukraine, the most important of which is the restoration of the country's territorial integrity.
And for this, Ukraine urgently needs a tool in the form of a powerful long-range shock and offensive weapon!
Further dragging out of this war with an indefinite ending for Ukraine is fraught with unpredictable consequences for the West and the globalized world in general.

The corpses of Russian soldiers near Bakhmut are circled in orange.

Russians are fighting as in the First World War - they are throwing the enemy's trenches with the corpses of their soldiers.

Huge losses...
