President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about the catastrophic situation with the provision of assistance to Ukrainians in the occupied part of the Kherson region and called on international organizations to join the rescue operation. Zelensky said this in his evening video message.

“Today, all day long, maximum attention is paid to the consequences of the Russian terrorist attack at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. Dozens of settlements in the territory under our control are flooded. Thousands of houses! Evacuation continues. And under fire! Russian artillery continues to strike, no matter what,” the president stressed.

According to him, as of this time, more than 2,000 people have been saved on the territory of the Kherson and Nikolaev regions.

At the same time, he noted that the situation in the occupied part of the Kherson region is absolutely catastrophic.

"The occupiers simply abandoned people in these terrible conditions. Without rescue, without water, just on the roofs of houses in the flooded bulks. And this is another deliberate crime of Russia: after the terrorist state has caused a catastrophe, it also maximizes the harm from it" Zelensky noted.

According to him, a clear and quick reaction of the world to what is happening is now needed.

"It is even impossible to establish exactly how many people in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region can die without rescue, without drinking water, without food, without medical care. Our military and special services are saving people as much as possible, despite the shelling. But larger efforts are required "It is necessary that international organizations, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, immediately join the rescue operation and help people precisely in the occupied part of the Kherson region. Every dead person there is a verdict on the existing international architecture, international organizations that have forgotten how to save lives. If now the international there is no organization in the zone of this catastrophe, which means that it does not exist at all, which means that it is incapacitated," Zelensky said.

He added that all relevant appeals from Ukraine and our government are available.

The head of state stressed that Ukraine has already received the support of many world leaders, heads of states, governments, interstate associations, who clearly condemned the Russian crime - ecocide.

"Together we must hold the occupiers accountable. They controlled both the dam and the entire hydroelectric power station for more than a year. Russian propagandists discussed just such a scenario - a man-made disaster. Last fall, we warned the world about Russia's mining of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, we also called for the dispatch of an international observation mission to Kakhovka, to demining units and all structures of the station. Unfortunately, world attention was not enough then to ensure all this. Now we must concentrate the attention of the world to eliminate the consequences of another catastrophe caused by Russia, we must prevent further destructive activity of the occupiers, " Zelensky noted.

Addressing people in the regions dependent on the Kakhovka reservoir, the president assured that they would be provided with drinking water and other necessary assistance.

"Peace will be with us. Partners are fully informed about what is happening, about what kind of help we need ... the direct duty of state and local authorities in all communities and areas that have been affected is to help people. From the government and the State Emergency Service to the regional authorities , local communities - everyone is involved to the maximum in order to save and protect as many people as possible," Zelensky said.

The Ministry of Energy of Bulgaria is preparing an arbitration claim against the Russian state gas company Gazprom for the suspension of gas supplies in April 2022.

This was stated by the acting minister of energy of the government Rossen Hristov, noting that the supplies were stopped after Bulgaria refused to make settlements with the aggressor in Russian rubles, according to Euractiv.com.

Bulgaria and Poland have become the first EU member states to suffer a cut in gas supplies from Russia after refusing to pay in Russian rubles in violation of dollar-denominated contracts.

Rumen Radev's government has been trying for a long time to negotiate the restoration of supplies, in connection with which International Arbitration Lawyer Metodi Baikushev criticized the Bulgarian government for its passivity towards Gazprom and warned that Russia could use the hybrid operation case to destabilize the new pro-Western government.

“My concern is that one of the attacks on the new government could come from Gazprom Export, which will (primarily) sue Bulgaria. Clearly, the Russian Federation has no problem running this hybrid operation, whether or not it loses. case," the lawyer said.

Russia could use the lawsuit as a hybrid attack on Bulgaria, the article says, because pro-Russian voices could portray it as a risk posed by pro-Western politicians who refused to pay rubles for Putin's gas.

A similar pro-Russian narrative was used in the immediate aftermath of the shutdown by pro-Russian journalists, pundits and political leaders who portrayed Bulgaria as completely dependent on the Kremlin's decision.

The lack of a global reaction to the explosion of the Kakhovskaya Hydroelectric Power Station may push Putin to even worse crimes.

There were no new punitive measures against the Kremlin for undermining the Kakhovskaya HPP.

This was announced on Twitter by the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrii Melnyk.

He drew attention to the fact that after the Russians entered a "new dimension" of the war with the blowing up of the Kakhovskaya HPP dam, the world public expressed only concern.

"But there were no new punitive measures against the Kremlin. This is dangerous. It can push Putin to even worse crimes," Melnyk emphasized.

On the eve of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP, the Russians "jammed" mobile communications in the occupied territories.

On the morning of June 6, it became known that the Russian occupiers blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP. As a result of the explosion, the engine room was completely destroyed, the station cannot be restored.

Evacuation has begun in the region. 80 settlements can be flooded. In total, 16,000 people are in the critical zone on the right bank of the Dnieper.

The explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP threatens the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station, but the situation is now under control. Also, an explosion can cause an imbalance in the energy system of Ukraine. The fields in the south of Ukraine may turn into a desert.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, no one, except Russia, had the technical ability to blow up the HPP. The NYT interviewed experts and also concluded that the station was blown up from the inside.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/06/world/europe/ukraine-kakhovka-dam-russia.html

Telegram channel 205 of the motorized rifle brigade of the Russian Federation, which is suspected of undermining the dam, wrote about the detonation of the HPP and the possibility of detonation back in October 2022.

The Kremlin insists that the Russians are allegedly not involved in the undermining of the Kakhovskaya HPP, and places all responsibility on the Ukrainians.

Russia was able to return the export of Western microchips and electronics to the pre-war level

European companies sell these materials to other countries, which resell what they receive to Russia.

Exports of key Western microchips and electronics that Russia needs to continue its war against Ukraine have returned to pre-sanction levels. The aggressor country stepped up its efforts to circumvent the sanctions.

"Earlier this year, Russia was able to reimport certain key categories of electronics at roughly pre-war levels," said Jim O'Brien, sanctions coordinator at the US State Department, quoted by Politico.

https://www.politico.eu/article/russia-better-evading-western-sanctions-electronics-war-ukraine/

As noted, we are talking about microcircuits, processors and integrated circuits that are necessary to create modern weapons. The problem, O'Brien said, is that European companies sell these materials to other countries, which then resell them to Russia.

The official stressed that sanctions circumvention remains a "significant problem." Now the US has discovered the involvement of five countries: Turkey, Kazakhstan, Georgia, the United Arab Emirates and Armenia.
Russia bypasses sanctions - latest news

As UNIAN previously reported, despite the largest number of sanctions in the world, the Russian Federation still has the resources to buy technology and produce weapons for the war against Ukraine.

The media regularly reveals new ways to bypass Russia's sanctions. In particular, it is known how the Kremlin buys microchips from Dutch manufacturers.

The German company Smart Impex is also suspected of supplying microchips to the aggressor market in circumvention of Western sanctions.

Recently it was reported that microchips continue to be supplied to the Russian Federation using intermediary firms in Turkey and Hong Kong. Through companies registered in March 2022, chips worth $777 million were delivered to the Russian Federation.

A big fish jumped into the hatch of a Ukrainian BMP-1 while crossing the river. VIDEO

During the crossing of the river by Ukrainian soldiers on the BMP-1, a large fish jumped into the open hatch of the armored vehicle.

According to Tsenzor.NET, Ukrainian soldiers published a video recording of curious fishing on social networks.

"A nice bonus in the form of a fish that jumped into the hatch of the driver of the Ukrainian BMP-1 while crossing the river," the fighters write in the comments to the video and show fish soup already cooked from fish.

Conservative anchor Tucker Carlson, who was recently terminated from FOX News, has released the first episode of his vlog. In it, he talks about the fact that it was Ukraine that blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP.
The video is full of manipulations and distortions. However, in 6 hours - more than 38 million views, and they are growing at some incredible speed. By the time I finish writing this post, there will probably be more.
Among others, the video was shared by Elon Musk, conservative American bloggers with millions of followers, MAGA Republicans in Congress, and (surprise) Russia's representative at the UN.
At the same time, some are trying to advance the thesis that it is not clear who is responsible for the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP. Maybe it's the Russians, maybe the Ukrainians, or maybe the dam broke by itself.
Here are satellite images, here is the opinion of some expert, here is a blurry video from a telegram, and here is last year's statement of an anonymous official. And in general, no one knows what really happened.
All of this reminds me very much of the information hype that Russia and its supporters tried to create after the downing of MH17.
Spread dozens of different versions and speculations, confuse, create fog, so that eventually people get lost in it and lose understanding of what is true and what is not.
And it seems that these efforts have now become very active - especially for the English-speaking audience. The informational struggle continues.
UPD: As of writing, Tucker Carlson's video has racked up two additional million views.

The Nova Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine, controlled by Russia, has been destroyed. One consequence is a humanitarian disaster that, had it not taken place within a war zone, would already have drawn enormous international assistance. Thousands of houses are flooded and tens of thousands of people are in flight or waiting for rescue. Another consequence is ecological mayhem, among other things the loss of wetland and other habitats. A third is the destruction of Ukrainian farmland and other elements of the Ukrainian economy. So much is happening at once that the story is hard to follow. Here are a few thoughts about writing responsibly about the event.

"It's very clear that on a daily basis, there are Russian forces attempting to kill innocent Ukrainians. In February of 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine and attempted to eliminate it as a country. So, the Ukrainians naturally have a right to defend themselves. And we have a right to be able to support them to defend themselves. And we — the United States government — are going to work with the international community to do everything we can to help them defend their country and take back sovereign territory." - said Pentagon Press Secretary United States Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder.
Ryder also announced that Secretary Austin will journey to Europe next week where he and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark A. Milley will host an in-person meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group on June 15, followed by the NATO Defense Ministers meeting on June 16.

Blurred cemeteries and cattle graves. What diseases threaten Ukraine after the dam disaster

When Serhii Rybalchenko walked waist-deep in water in flooded Kherson, what did he not see - garbage, pieces of furniture, clothes and even a dead cat.

"The streets turned into rivers in which everything floated. Everything that people had in their yards," says a resident of the city. He pulled eight people, seven dogs and one parrot to land in Kherson.

And although the water level is gradually decreasing, dozens of villages and thousands of houses remain flooded in the south of Ukraine - a huge territory with an area of hundreds of square kilometers.

Environmentalists and doctors say that many dangerous substances have entered the water, which can cause outbreaks of intestinal infections, hepatitis, botulism, cholera and even anthrax.

Hepatitis and cholera

"We had a problem with cemeteries in Oleshki even before the flooding. The groundwater level was high, we couldn't bury the dead deeply. What's happening there now is a real disaster. It's sandy soil that easily washes out," says Yevhen Ryschuk, mayor flooded Oleshok in Kherson Oblast, which has been under Russian occupation for a year and a half.

In addition, almost all private houses in the city had cesspools, which were also flooded.

"All these feces will now flow into the Dnipro," says Ryschuk, who himself is in Kyiv. With a very high probability, thousands of cattle, many dogs and cats drowned.

Flooding is always a problem with drinking water when water treatment systems fail and sewage mixes with drinking water sources. Because of this, there is a risk of spreading infections.

And this is exactly what is happening on a large scale in the south of Ukraine.

As of June 9, cemeteries in at least seven settlements of the Kherson region (Korsunka, Olhivka, Odradokamianka, Krynyk, Oleshki, Saga, Solontsi), as well as filtration fields in Oleshki, where water was purified, and a huge agricultural farm with waste were completely flooded and several warehouses with fertilizers. A landfill near the city of Gola Prystan and a cattle cemetery near the village of Dnipryani are also under water.

This is far from a complete list of dangerous flooded objects, local officials and ecologists told the BBC. Data is still being collected.

The Ministry of Health warns of a significant risk of spreading hepatitis A (Botkin's disease), acute intestinal infections, including cholera and botulism in flooded areas due to a plague of fish that died at the bottom of the Kakhovsky Sea.

Even before the war and flooding, this region was considered potentially favorable for the spread of cholera, but now the risks have increased, says the chief sanitary doctor of Ukraine, Ihor Kuzin, but assures that the situation is under control.

People are asked not to collect fish at the bottom of the sea, not to buy it at spontaneous markets. In flooded areas, drink only bottled or purified water, wash and heat-treat foods thoroughly.

Anthrax

In the south, many fields that were treated with fertilizers were flooded. After the dam burst, it all went into the water. If you use such water, kidney and liver diseases may occur.

"In such cases, it is advised to boil water or (better) to drink imported water in order to reduce the chances of infection. Because boiling will not help if the water is contaminated with nitrates," says Volodymyr Kurpita, former head of the Center for Public Health. Therefore, people are advised not to use water from wells near flooded areas, even if the water has not reached there.

"There are many farms around us, many warehouses with fertilizers. People kept greenhouses, stored pesticides. All of this could get into the water. But this is not the worst thing - we are most afraid of anthrax," says Taisia Kozak, an environmentalist from Novaya Kakhovka. She has been working in the field of environmental protection for many years and heads the local environmental organization "Mama-86".

In the 1950s and 1970s, cattle with anthrax were buried in the cattle cemetery between the villages of Dnipryan and Korsunka, on the left bank of the Kherson region.

Now this area is completely under water.

That night, Russian terrorists launched another rocket attack on Ukraine. In particular, in Krivoy Rog, rockets hit a residential five-story building and a private enterprise.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that during the night attack on Krivoy Rog, one of the rockets hit a warehouse of bottled water intended for residents of the Kherson region. One of the victims there was a 17-year-old boy.

Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko recalled that as a result of another terrorist attack by Russians, 11 residents of Krivoy Rog were killed, and another 28 in the hospital. According to him, enemy missiles also attacked a warehouse of bottled water, which was collected for the needs of the Kherson region.

“About 25 civilians worked at the warehouse. And this water was transported to all corners of our state, including the Kherson region for the victims of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station,” the minister said.

Klimenko specified that the bodies of seven people were found under the rubble in the warehouse, one of them was 17 years old. In addition, three wounded from there are now in the hospital.

At the same time, as Alexander Vilkul, chairman of the city's Defense Council, clarified, a 22-year-old spouse was killed during an attack on a high-rise building. "David and Ksenia ... a couple in love got married only last year. On the third of June they celebrated their wedding anniversary ... both teachers by education. The most peaceful profession on earth," he said.
