If Ukraine is defeated in the war, Russia will start a new aggression, and then American soldiers will have to fight. This was stated by former US Vice President and possible Republican presidential candidate Michael Pence in an interview with The Hugh Hewitt Show.

So, Pence shared his impressions of a recent trip to Ukraine, where he, in particular, visited Bucha and talked with people who survived the occupation.

“I have to tell you that what is happening in Ukraine now is not just a war, it is evil. And, frankly, I really left [Ukraine] with more determination than ever, which is in our national interest to provide Ukrainian military support to repel this Russian invasion," he said.

Pence said he was committed to the "old Reagan Doctrine": if you're willing to fight your enemies in the US on your own soil, we'll give you the means to fight them there so we don't have to fight them.

“I have no doubt that if Vladimir Putin took over Ukraine, it would not be too long before the Russian military crossed the border, where we would have to send our soldiers to fight against them,” Pence said.

Aid to Ukraine from the United States - latest news

In the near future, the United States may allocate to Ukraine a new type of weapons, the transfer of which has long refrained - cluster munitions. Although there are no outright bans on such shipments, cluster munitions have a bad reputation, and many countries around the world have pledged not to manufacture or use them.

Meanwhile, journalists have found out that a significant part of American aid to Ukraine is held under the heading of secrecy and is not announced in the public field. Such assistance is overseen by the CIA. However, President Biden outlined strict limits for this department, beyond which such assistance should not go.

Earlier it became known that in New York, Lavrov met with former employees of the American security structures.

President Joe Biden did not give his permission for secret meetings between US national security officials and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. This was announced by an unnamed representative of the US government to Sky News.

Earlier, US media reported that a group of former US security officials held talks with a number of prominent Russians. Among other things, a potential peace agreement between the Russian Federation and Ukraine was discussed. In April, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke with the Americans in New York for several hours, sources said.

Now that the information has become public, a spokesman for the US State Department denies that this was Washington's initiative.

"The Biden administration has not authorized these discussions. And, as we have repeatedly said, no talks about Ukraine without Ukraine," the speaker said.

Russian units at the front are being depleted at an accelerated rate due to the lack of rotation, which in turn is caused by a lack of reserves. This is reported by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts drew attention to the publications of Russian "military correspondents" who complain about the lack of rotation of units in the occupying army. Thus, the Russian military personnel called up for mobilization operating in the Zaporozhye region have been on the front lines since October 2022 without any rotation.

One of the military bloggers bluntly stated that the Russian forces were not able to take these mobilized personnel from the forward positions to rest because there were no free people to replace them.

"The refusal to carry out any rotation is likely to lead to a faster degradation of Russian formations defending against Ukrainian counter-offensives in southern Ukraine," the ISW said.

Also, Russian military correspondents accused Russian helicopter pilots of falsifying military operations: attack helicopters regularly strike at already destroyed Ukrainian military equipment. Military correspondents believe that the Russian Ministry of Defense may use these repeated single-target hits to report inflated Ukrainian casualties and portray Russian defensive operations as extremely effective.

On the night of July 7, 2023, the Russian occupation forces attacked Ukraine with Iranian Shahed-136/131 attack drones from the southeast (Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Krasnodar Territory).

In total, the Air Force recorded launches of 18 "Shaheds".

Air defense worked in the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine.

As a result of combat work, units of the anti-aircraft missile forces, fighter aircraft and mobile fire groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 12 Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs.

United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken commented on the Russian missile attack on Lviv on the night of July 6, 2023, which killed seven people.

As Blinken noted in his Twitter post, the strike is yet another example of the Kremlin's brutality.

"The Russian attack on the western Ukrainian city of Lviv is yet another example of the Kremlin's brutality, which is why supporting Ukraine's defense against Kremlin aggression is vital. The US commitment to Ukraine is unwavering," he said.

US President Joe Biden approved the provision of cluster munitions to Ukraine. Their withdrawal from the Pentagon's stocks will be announced today, July 7th.

According to The Washington Post, the move circumvents US legislation that prohibits the production, use, or transfer of cluster munitions with a failure rate of more than 1%. However, the decision was made against the background of the Ukrainian counter-offensive and the reduction of Western stocks of conventional artillery ammunition.

     This comes after months of internal debate over whether to ship controversial munitions that are banned by most countries in the world. Cluster weapons detonate mid-air over a target, releasing tens to hundreds of smaller submunitions over a wide area.

According to WP, Ukraine will receive M864 cluster artillery shells, first made in 1987. They will be launched from 155-mm howitzers provided to Ukraine by the United States and partners. In its last public assessment, more than 20 years ago, the Pentagon noted that the "malfunction" of this artillery shell was 6%. This means that at least four of each of the 72 submunitions carried by each projectile will remain unexploded.

     "We are aware of decades-old reports indicating that certain 155mm DPICMs (Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munitions - UNIAN) have higher failure rates," one Pentagon official said on condition of anonymity.

The Pentagon says it has new estimates based on 2020 testing with a bounce rate no higher than 2.35%. Officials are "carefully selecting" munitions with a loss rate of 2.35% or below for transfer to Ukraine, Pentagon spokesman Brig said.

A Department of Defense spokesman said details of the new assessments "are not to be made public," including how, when and where the tests were conducted, and whether they included launches or virtual simulations. Military regulations state that these weapons cannot be fired during training as they are part of the military's stockpile.

Although the US has not produced these types of munitions for many years, Human Rights Watch estimates, based on Department of Defense reports, that 4.7 million cluster rounds, rockets, rockets, and bombs remain in military stocks, containing more than 500 million submunitions or bombs.

Cluster munitions can significantly help Ukraine in the current counter-offensive, as stocks of artillery shells are rapidly running out and production has not kept pace with demand.

"The Russians use three to four times more artillery shells of various calibers than we do. And we must save money, because we cannot fire so intensively," Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said.

     "Since these shells (cluster - UNIAN) are effective, they will allow us to compensate for this difference. The Russians use them against us, so for our self-defense we have every right to use the same ammunition. This is only where there are fields, because it is very important not to harm the civilian population. We will not use them to de-occupy cities," Reznikov said.

The US military has long considered cluster munitions a useful weapon on the battlefield. This position was confirmed in March by General Christopher Cavoli, head of the US European Command.

     "We call it dual target because they release bombs, some of which are anti-personnel fragmentation grenades and some are shaped charges that attack vehicles from above. It's a very effective weapon," Cavoli said.

However, Army artillery doctrine warns that DPICM submunitions "may pose a significant risk to friendly personnel and equipment." That is, unexploded ordnance can also threaten the troops that launched them while moving forward. In particular, several US military personnel died from the detonation of unexploded ordnance during the Gulf War.

     “Someone in the Department of Defense knows the actual level of losses, and I hope that this will be honestly and accurately reported to the Ukrainian units that will receive these types of ammunition,” the former US Army officer said on condition of anonymity.

Happy birthday, Mr. General!
This is the way!

A man was born today, whom the Ukrainian state entrusted to lead its army in the most difficult days for us. A person on whose stability and skill now depends, without exaggeration, the future of the country. And which bears this historical burden with dignity. Because Ukraine believes in the Armed Forces, and the Armed Forces believe in their Commander-in-Chief - and sincerely respect him.
Congratulations, Valery Fedorovych! Thank you for your humanity and openness, we wish you good health and strength to overcome any monster.
Mr. General, we are going with you to victory!

...it's my birthday today too 🙂 it just so happened... I'm 56 years old today...

- I urge official Berlin not to repeat Merkel's mistakes in 2008;
- Russia's aggressive behavior was a consequence of opposing Ukraine's accession to NATO;
- we understand that no one wants NATO to enter the war, but the invitation does not provide such an opportunity for further events;
- 19.29 /Schultz, General of the Bundeswehr/:
- I do not rule out that the Russians can study the technology they have admired in Ukraine;
– the crew of the destroyed tank must leave it and leave it on the battlefield;
– the enemy can study such equipment, gain knowledge about advanced technologies;
- it annoys me that the Russians can capture, in particular, Leopard 2 and other equipment;
- however, there is no reason to be very nervous, as this is a common phenomenon;

- NATO needed these large-scale defense plans for decades;
- the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine gave an awareness of the need for a prepared reaction;
– Turkey blocked the approval of plans due to geographical wording;
- NATO will provide countries with recommendations on the modernization of their armed forces;
– the need to finance such changes should be noted at the summit in Vilnius;
– the current goal of 2% of GDP should become the minimum requirement in financing;
- according to the estimates of NATO officials, the implementation of the plans may take several years;
- to implement regional plans, NATO transfers 300,000 military personnel to a state of heightened combat readiness;
- 9:30 p.m. /Zelenskyi, President of Ukraine/:
– bilateral meetings of various levels are already planned at the NATO summit in Vilnius;

Our commitment to Ukraine will not weaken. We will stand for liberty and freedom today, tomorrow, and for as long as it takes."
When Putin, and his craven lust for land and power, unleashed his brutal war on Ukraine, he was betting NATO would break apart. He was betting NATO would break. He thought our unity would shatter at the first testing. He thought democratic leaders would be weak. But he thought wrong.
In the months leading up to the war, as Putin amassed his forces on the Ukrainian border and laid the groundwork for his brutal invasion, it wa- — I was in constant contact with my fellow leaders of the G7 and the European Union and NATO, constantly.
Even after all of this time, Putin doubts our staying power. He’s making his bad bet that the unity among the U.S. and our Allies and partners will break down. He doesn’t understand that our commitment to freedom is something we will never walk away from – it's who we are.
This morning, I joined the first meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council. Our commitment to Ukraine as it defends its freedom and rebuilds its future is unwavering.
After nearly a year and a half of Russia’s forces committing terrible atrocities, including crimes against humanity, the people of Ukraine remain unbroken. Unbroken. (Applause.) Ukraine remains independent. It remains free. And the United States has built a coalition of more than 50 nations to make sure Ukraine defends itself both now and is able to do it in the future as well.
God bless you all, and may God protect the freedoms of the protectors of freedom in Ukraine, here, in every nation in the world, everywhere. God protect our troops.

Joint statement on support for Ukraine
We, the leaders of the Nordic countries, remain unwavering in our support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Building upon the Joint statement of the Nordic-Ukrainian Summit in Helsinki, we pledge to continue our support for Ukraine for as long as it takes. To this end, we welcome the G7 Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine.
Together and with partners, we intend to build on the framework of commitments and arrangements – considering the wide range of needs from provision of modern military equipment to training initiatives and support for resilience. We will do so in order to contribute to Ukraine’s long-term security, deter future Russian aggression, strengthen Ukraine’s economic stability and resilience, and provide technical and financial support for Ukraine’s immediate needs. Our engagement will be in accordance with our respective legal and constitutional frameworks. We will pursue this work without further delay.
We are committed to support Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty and territorial integrity, rebuilds its economy, protects its citizens, and advances its reform agenda, as it pursues its integration into the Euro-Atlantic community.
‘Norway joins the G7 declaration of support for Ukraine. The five-year Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine already in place represents an important step in providing this type of support. The security assurances are an important supplement to the comprehensive support package for Ukraine that was approved by the NATO countries at the Vilnius Summit,’ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The pro-Western moves by Turkey, including Erdogan’s warm welcome of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Istanbul on Friday, led to speculation that Turkey was pivoting to restore warmer relations with Europe and the United States after several years of close cooperation with Moscow.

Russian children and teenagers are brought up in the belief that death in war is an honor.

The Kremlin is actively developing the Yunarmiya for children and teenagers. But this is not just another tool for recruiting "cannon fodder" for the war, but an element of Russia's preparation for a long-term war. Ian Garner, an expert on Russian culture and military propaganda, expressed this opinion in his article for Newsweek.

https://www.newsweek.com/vladimir-putin-preparing-russian-children-lifetimes-war-opinion-1812598

The Russian Yunarmiya, created by the Ministry of Defense in 2016, is now expanding rapidly and already has 1.3 million members - children and adolescents. This organization, which has common features with the German Hitler Youth and the Soviet Pioneers, is called upon to explain to the younger generation of Russians that "their country is surrounded by mortal enemies, that only war can bring peace and that there is no greater feat than to die for the Motherland."

Garner notes that modern information technologies are actively used to brainwash young Russians, which is a much more effective tool than clumsy television propaganda.

Through funny memes, online games and TikTok-style videos, the Yunarmiya turns the grim reality of death on the battlefield into something inspiring.

As an illustrative example, Garner cites one of the TikTok videos published by the official Yunarmiya account. In this video, a young man in military uniform during a military parade approaches a girl in Yunarmiya uniform, gets down on one knee and, apparently, proposes marriage to her.

Hundreds of these videos, which have made their way onto the social media feeds of young Russians, echo the message from teenage soldiers and Kremlin-paid celebrities and influencers. The Yunarmiya is not a place to die in a war that Russian millennials seem to hate. where dreams come true," writes Garner.

The analyst notes that one main message is visible behind all the Yunarmiya propaganda: the best Russians are those who die for their country. There are many propaganda videos on the net that draw a direct parallel between the young soldiers who died in World War II against Nazi Germany and the same young guys killed in the current war against Ukraine.

The death of Yunarmiya graduates in the war is presented by propaganda not as a tragedy, but is used for pretentious "patriotic holidays". Garner cites the example of one Nikita Nedzelsky, a 20-year-old volunteer from the Siberian city of Noyabrsk who died trying to take over Ukraine. The funeral ceremony was attended by representatives of the press, public figures, local veterans, schoolchildren and "fighters" of the Yunarmiya.

The analyst notes that this approach gives Russian youth a more attractive picture than propaganda on TV or lessons of "patriotism" at school: death "for the sake of the Motherland" gives them the opportunity to ascend into the pantheon of Russian military saints.
