  1. Hi William, With additional plates these stills will make great Vodka. The 150 gallon Standard series Combination Mash Cooker, Vodka still shown in the picture below has 16 plates total. We build the heating systems here in house. This still has an automated system to balance the columns. This still will make almost any spirit that you want to make: Rum, Bourbon, whiskey gin brandy and Vodka. Plus you can cook mash in it and it will do stripping runs and it has a built in cooling system for crash cooling the mash. I don't think that anyone else has a system like this for $26,995.00 Unlike many of our competitors we build many of our still components here in our shop and we have been building complete stills here for over 4 years now. Our facility is over 8,500 square ft and we have 20 employees including 10 welder fabricators. The line arms, condenser, table stand, drain return, gin basket, heating system, automated dephlegmator control system and parrot were all built here by my people. This still was also assembled and thoroughly tested by my people. All of the safety valves are made in the USA. We can build anything that you desire that is practical.
  2. This is my equipment. Sectional or modular column designs were patented over 100 years ago and those patents have been in the public domain for a very long time. Still Dragon was not the first company to tri clamp together column sections. The patent for Still Dragons Pro Cap combination bubble cap was entered over 80 years ago, by another company. People have been building stills for a very long time. Many still designers have thought that they had a revolutionary new design only to find that it had been done many times before. There were several companies selling variations of the Tri clamp modular design plated columns before me, including but not limited to Mile Hi Distilling and Moonshine Distiller. I'm pretty sure that Mile Hi was using a tri clamp modular design with perforated plates before Still Dragon started selling theirs. Each of us have design variations in our Tri Clamp modular columns. Contact me paul@distillery-equipment.com and I will tell you why my designs are better than my competitors. I sell many different types of columns. I try to have anything that a customer might want.
  3. Hello, We would be glad to help you. For a quote, references and pictures of our work, please call or email: paul@distillery-equipment.com or call 417=778-6100 and ask for Paul. Check out our web site at http://distillery-equipment.com
  4. Hi Blue star, I have the still below with the optional agitator, NEMA1 VFD drive and the 11,000 watt manual heating system, is a little less than $5,000.00 There is a picture of the 45 gallon with our optional reflux vodka section in place at the bottom of this post. The packed stainless vodka section is removable, so that the customer can run just the 4 bubble plates if they like, or they can remove the plates and run it as a pot still. I don't have it on my web site yet. I have been so busy that I have not had a chance to get the rest of the Standard series stills listed. I find it absolutely unbelievable that one of my competitors is charging over $25,000.00 for a 50 gallon still without an agitator or heating system. 45 Gallon Jacketed Standard Series Still with 4” Copper Bubble Plate Column This 45 gallon still is great for Bourbon, Whiskey, Brandy, Grappa, Rum and many others. It will distill between 130 and 170 proof. This Still has a beautiful 4" Diameter Copper Bubble Plate Column with four 4" diameter sight glasses, Gatling Gun (Tube & Shell) Dephlagmator on top of the Column and a 3" Gatling Gun (Tube & Shell) Condenser on the right side of the column. The column can be ran in Pot Still Mode to make Whiskey and Moonshine or it can be ran in reflux mode to make high proof light Whiskey or Rum. The boiler has three 2" Tri Clamp ports, with Tri Clamps and Cover Plates. The port can be used to install an electric element with controller (please see the heating system option listed below). The Best thing about this 45 gallon still is that it is jacketed. Cooking oil or water can be ran in the jacket. This gives you the ability to run grain in mashes and other mashes such as potato mashes, grappa mashes and fruit mashes with the solids left in, without the worry of scorching. This makes this still perfect for craft recipe research and development. If you are running a production sized still with a pot still head/column or a plate column up to 4 plates then this still will give you results that should closely match your larger still. We have options below for agitators etc The next best thing about this 45 gallon still is that it can be used as a mash cooker for grain in mashes or potatoes etc. You can stir by hand until you reach boiling or you can use the optional agitators listed below 45 Gallon operating capacity 53 Gallon Total Capacity 13 Gallon Jacket Operating Capacity 16 Gallon Total Capacity in the Jacket 2" Sanitary Butterfly Drain valve for Mash Carrying handles. 3" tri clamp column connection ½” 5 psi Pressure Relief Valve on the jacket ½” 5 psi Pressure Relief Valves on the inner boiler 4” Diameter Copper Packed Bubble Plate Column The column is completely modular with Sanitary Tri Clamp Connections throughout It is very simple easy and fast to disassemble the Column for Cleaning Plates can be added or removed from the column to run different proofs The Column can be Set up to Run as a Pot Still Head in a Matter of 5 to 10 Minutes Top quality construction with beautifully rounded curves. Built from heavy gauge 304 food grade stainless steel Commercial grade thermometer in the oil Jacket 1”x1.5” triclamp port for a temperature probe in the oil Polished to a mirror finish inside and out. Thermowell and Commercial grade thermometer with a 3" face. Copper packing is included for the column. Copper packing removes the nasty tasting sulfides from the alcohol vapor. 5. Hi Robbie, Email me at paul@distillery-equipment.com or call 417-778-6100 for a quote. We now have equipment in over 130 legal distilleries.
  6. You don't need steam jacketed equipment. I have self contained oil jacketed mash tun stripping stills starting at less than $5,000.00 These units are electrically fired and have cooking oil in the jacket instead of steam. One of these units will save you a ton of labor and you will make better corn spirits with the on the grain distillation. However, I do understand where you are coming from and I know that sometimes it is just not possible to upgrade. paul@distillery-equipment.com 417-778-6100
  7. What you really need is a jacketed mash cooker. Corn mashes work best when you cook, ferment and distill on the grain. We have jacketed mash tuns that are designed for doing corn mashes and we have mash tun stripping still combination vessels. Here is a link to our 200 gallon Pro Series Mash Tuns: https://distillery-equipment.com/200_gallon_pro_series_mash_tun.htm Please scroll down the page to see the pics. Here is a link to our 200 gallon Pro Series Combination Mash Tun Stills. https://distillery-equipment.com/200_gallon_mash_tun_stripping_st.htm If these do not fit your budget that is okay. We have other equipment that will fit almost any budget. That is what we are here for. If you have questions just email paul@distillery-equipment.com We have equipment in over 130 distilleries.
  8. We have a huge selection of triclamp parts including clamps, ferrules end caps, hose barb adapters and NPT adapters, butterfly valves, ball valves, site glasses, commercial grade thermometers and many, many more. We have the best quality and prices. https://www.distillery-equipment.com/oshop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=26 We have sold over $300,000.00 in tri clamp parts since we started 4 years ago. We be adding camlock connectors to our catalog in around 4 weeks.
  9. We have sold equipment built from re-purposed tanks and used stainless pipe to over 30 distilleries here in the US. We call this our Backwoods series equipment. People love it and they really love the price. We are building a 1000 gallon Backwoods stripping still right now, for a customer who sourced the used jacketed tanks himself. His 1,000 gallon stripping still will cost less than 1/10th what it would have cost if he purchased it from Vendome or one of the German manufacturers. This same customer sent us an all copper still made in Germany that we are modifying for him. If you want to save allot of money, equipment built from used tanks and pipe etc. is the way to go. Here is a link to one of our backwoods stills. https://distillery-equipment.com/beehive_dist_O_13593.jpeg Note, the used beer keg welded to the bottom of the jacket. The beer keg holds the heat transfer medium, which is cooking oil. We have stills for all budgets. Here is a pic of one of our 300 gallon Ultra Pro Series Stills http://distillery-equipment.com/MISC/300%20gallon%20copper%20top%20Ultra%20Pro%20Whiskey%20Still.jpg My pro Series stills are the same or better quality than our big name competitors at 25% of their price.

  17. Bluestar, You are correct, but the data shows that you will not have any issues at 15psi or less or at temps. of 250°F or less. Which is why you will find Teflon Gaskets and Teflon seats in valves that are rated for 250°F and less at pressures of 15 psi and less, but you will not normally see it in gaskets and teflon valve seats rated at higher temps and pressures.. Also, some people choose Teflon over silicone because silicone is not an A rated with ethanol and Teflon is. However the type of silicone used in these gaskets leaches such a small amount that it does not matter. Personally I like the silicone gaskets better because they are softer and give a better seal and are therefore less likely to leak, in my opinion. However, the first 4 large pro series stills that we built have Teflon gaskets between the 12" column flanges and none have failed or leaked after 3 years of use. Please read the below especially about elastic memory and recovery of Teflon. This pretty much explains why you don't have any issues at 212°F but there are issues at 350°F *Quinn et al., J. Applied Phys. 22, 1085 (1951) Low Temperature Properties Parts fabricated of Teflon® PTFE resins exhibit high strength, toughness, and self-lubrication at low temperatures. Teflon® PTFE resins are useful from –268°C (–450°F) and are highly flexible from –79°C (–110°F). Thermal Conductivity and Specific Heat The average thermal conductivity of Teflon® PTFE is 1.7 ± 0.3 Btu⋅in/h⋅ft2 ⋅°F. The average heat capacity is 0.3 Btu/lb⋅°F for Teflon® PTFE. These data were obtained at temperatures ranging from 20–260°C (68–500°F). Heat Distortion Temperatures obtained for heat distortion of Teflon® PTFE are (ASTM D648) 122°C (252°F) for a stress of 66 psi and 56°C (132°F) for a stress of 264 psi. Elastic Memory Parts made from Teflon® PTFE resins tend to return to their original dimensions after a deformation, but the process of recovery may require a long time. A fabricated part that creeps or deforms over a period of time under stress will recover its original shape when stress is removed and the part is raised to sintering temperature. However, partial recovery will occur at lower temperatures. At any given temperature, recovery to be expected at that temperature is substantially complete in 15 min or less, but extent of recovery increases with increased temperature. For example, a filament of Teflon® PTFE 4 in long, stretched to a length of 12 in and heated at 100°C (212°F), recovers to approximately 11 in within 15 min and then remains substantially unchanged. A similar piece heated to 200°C (392°F) recovers to 10 in. The first piece, after additional heating to 200°C (392°F), undergoes further recovery until it is 10 in long. When heated to 350°C (662°F), both pieces return to their original length of 4 in.
  18. Hi Bluestar. The TFE seats in the valves are good for 250°F The PTFE gaskets are good for at least that.
  19. Just so you guys know. Those valves are not UL listed. If you are interested. I have US made, UL listed Apollo pressure relief valves with a NPT to tri clamp adapter and the PTFE gaskets for a better price than the non UL listed Chinese made valves. Here is the page with the valves http://www.distillery-equipment.com/oshop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=23_76 If you want stainless ones just let me know paul@distillery-equipment.com Here is a link to the NPT to Tri Clamp Adapters http://www.distillery-equipment.com/oshop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=26_75'>http://www.distillery-equipment.com/oshop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=26_75 Here is a link to our tri clamp parts in general http://www.distillery-equipment.com/oshop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=26 here is a link to our gaskets http://www.distillery-equipment.com/oshop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10 Teflon and PTFE are the same of course. The Viton gaskets serve a different purpose. They will not work with ethanol.
  20. Cali_Shine_Distillery_co The Copper Use Limitation is for the copper in the silicon bronze. Copper salts are not good for you and acids as well as solvents pull them out of the copper. As long as the copper is in the up side of the vapor path then there are no worries. The copper molecule is to heavy to be carried upwards by the ethanol vapor. If there is copper in the line arm and in the downside of the vapor path, especially the condenser then those copper salts will be carried over into the spirit. Of course we all know many, if not most, stills have some copper in the downside of the vapor path, even copper condensers, so it is a fact that most distilled spirits have some copper salts in them. However, most people do not consume enough distilled spirits to be poisoned by the copper salts. The copper salts are of course green. Distilled spirits with really high levels of copper salts will have a slightly blue tint. Of course you can only see the blue tint before it goes into the barrel. More copper salts are carried through from the condenser than any other part of the still, because liquid ethanol picks up more copper salts than ethanol vapor. If you keep the condenser tubes clean then there will not be enough copper salts to matter, but if you let them get really green and nasty you will see that very slight blue tint in your condensate if you look closely enough. Of course we all know that some copper is necessary to remove the sulfides from the spirit, however that can be done by having the copper in the upside of the vapor path. My rule of thumb, as far as designing and building stills, is that copper is okay as long as there is no copper in the condenser. That is not to say that I will not sell a customer a copper condenser. I have and I still will if that is what they want. However, I always suggest and I prefer to build the final condenser from stainless. It is not the copper in the silicon bronze that actually worries me. It is the other things in it. I have researched it and I have not found anything that is conclusive either way. We rarely use silicon bronze anymore, but when we do we make sure that it will have no contact with the ethanol.
  21. You can use scratch start on stainless and copper. Just make sure that you use the Ceriated Tungsten electrode and not the Thoriated tungsten electrode. You can sharpen the tungsten with a 4" grinding wheel or a bench grinding wheel but you should not use those wheels for anything else. Chem sharp powder works really well for sharpening electrodes for stainless and copper. We mainly use chemsharp here. You can find the chemsharp powder on the internet. It works great and you don't end up putting any dust in the air like the grinding method. To remove the weld tint from the welds you can use Bradford Derustit's wonder gel. You just wipe it on the weld bead and leave it for 15 minutes and then you just wash the weld with soapy water and the black weld tint magically wipes away leaving a shiny stainless weld bead. The wonder gels primary ingredient is a very strong acid so fallow the directions carefully. You will also need to passivate the tank after all of the welding is done. You can use nitric acid for that, or you can use the wonder gel.

  23. Federal law eclipses the State Cannabis laws as well, but that certainly has not slowed any states down. I think that 23 have legalized medical and now 4 have legalized recreational. Also in just in the last 2 weeks the feds passed a bill saying that the DEA is not allowed to interfere with states that have legalized medical. Meaning that they will not interfere with the state licensed suppliers and vendors of MJ in those states. Anyway, The FED TTB is the regulatory arm and the state ATF and or state ATC is the enforcement arm. Which would mean that if I call the TTB and inform them that my neighbor is distilling for family use that they will refer me to the MO state ATC, who will tell me that that is fine as long as they are fallowing the state law. . Fed ATF and federal marshals will sometimes step in on larger busts if the state agency request them to, but that is pretty rare these days. I would certainly never illegally distill for home use or otherwise. We test our stills in several different ways all of them legal.
  24. Matt, If someone is is giving freely and asks nothing in return and there is no way that they can take anything from you, then I say trust. If they want something in in return or if you will be giving them an opportunity to take something, then I would say trust but make sure that you cover your ass. I've learned to always fallow my gut. We all know the drill when something seems hinky. I served as well. I will say that most everyone that I have met in the craft distilling industry are good, hard working people and since the industry is so small the word gets around about bad apples pretty fast.
