    i thought I heard that a copper worm (as opposed to stainless steel) in the condenser was a bad idea. Is this right? Does it leach copper into the finished product?

    You do not need a retailer's license. You are able to sell out of your tasting room under your Michigan manufacture license, Basically you can run a full bar and charge whatever you want for drinks as long as you are using your spirits or beer. You can bring in cider/wine and sell that too ( or make it and sell it).

    Are there any small distilleries that would be interested in creating a custom "Michigan" bottle? We could agree on a design and have the state name incorportaed on bottle . This would help us keep costs down considerably and unify us across the state with a non-stock bottle! 20,000 bottle min order ($30k-$50k delivered aprox . To be split among all involved)

    Great info guys! Thanks. I was spoiled and used a brad new electric side shift 8,000 pound one during training but knew I could never afford it for our start-up. I was curious about what we could get by with and the cost. I am hoping we can get one for around $5k.

    Teton- Thats what I was thinking for that size tank. I know a lot of great distilleries using open top jacketed ferm tanks in the 500gal range with no agitation and the product is amazing!

    So why do people want the mixer? Why pay the big bucks? I have seen most places don't use any agitation. Is it if you get over a certain size it needs to be mixed?

    Has anyone found a leasing company that has a reasonable rate? I know a lot of the brewing equipment companies are starting to take on distillery equipment but we are seeing 25-30% rates ! wow.

    That looks like a great set-up! What size low pressure steam boiler is used to run the system? Is there a lid for the mash tun?

    I for one like flavored whiskey and other spirits. I think it can be a fun way to expand your line-up and bring in new customers.
