  1. depends on what part your talking about. not normally. but it should be passivated. welding on stainless will destroy the top protective layer, and since stainless is made of chromium and iron, it could rust. so when you passivate the weld it cleans it and allows it to react with the oxygen in the air and reform the protective layer. takes about 48 hours. Never use bleach on stainless steel it will destroy it. sanitary welds are mainly for food industry like milk, the weld is smooth and will not hold any junk that could rot or turn bad and spoil other batches. in a still the boiler will clean its self with the high heat and the up parts also, but the alcohol will kill any thing else. 2. i can passivate a weld. www.redbootstills.com
  3. the natural honey will coagulate with some of the coloring in the whiskey and fall out of solution. You maybe able to resolve part of the problem by adjusting the ph of the honey to that of your whisky while you add it with the warm water.
  4. www.usedbarrels.com they sale all kinds of used whiskey barrels. i think there in TN. or KY.
  5. WWW.REDBOOTSTILLS.COM I build still using the oil bath method.
  6. Mobil Therm. it has a flash point of 600F, so you can easliy go to 450-500F I can sell you some if would like. I have it in 55 gallon drums, and can put it in 5 gallon pails.
  7. I run mine with a single pass. Four plate refraction head with dephlegmator. For me energy wise it is cheaper, speed wise it's faster than distilling it twice. Take care!
  8. 2 x the cost is beyond correct. Look at it like this .... When your running your still you could be working another job so your losing money there. I 100% agree with 2x the cost!
  9. Just letting everyone know I'm launching my new company. www.redbootstills.com With over 12 years in the distilling field, 20 years in the manufacturing field, and electronics degree in both systems and automation. I also have my own DSP. I love building stills and I love this industry, what better way to be involved. Look for my up coming ad in "Artisan Spirts Magazine". FYI the website is still being put together.

  14. Well, let's get one thing straight. Number one please do not put words in my mouth in which I have not said. You seem like a semi-intelligent individual so here's my side of the story. Made in China is not a reference to their poor quality. Even though we all know stuff made overseas sometimes is not as high quality as we think it is. It's the people ordering the stuff that try and make it as cheap as possible to turn a profit. It is simply a reference that all the money stays in the United States. It puts food on the table for people here. Also when I'm building a continuous still or just a regular still or any type of Distilling equipment I build it with my own two hands and with a lot of pride. So do not try and belittle me. The other companys that have stuff imported from China how can they take pride in something they haven't even built? Being made in the USA is also a benefit on shipping time. Instead of taking 3 to 4 months to get something shipped from overseas I can do it in 3 to 4 weeks. I am very proud to produce my products that are made in the United States. I'm proud to be a veteran of the United States Air Force. And if I want to tell somebody that my products are made in United States, well I'll stand up and tell them. Because I'm proud, and I produce a very high-quality product. Deal with that! I have over 12 years experience distilling, and 20 year inf the manufacturing field. I own a DSP and it works. I have lots of knowledge to offer. Anybody that has a closed mind in this distilling field will fail. I'm here to make sure that does not happen. I spend hours and hours on the phone tring to help solve peoples problems. I wish you the best. Take care! Joe D .
