  3. thanks silk city i ll def look up that book and see if i can find any information . i personally cant see how any minerals would carry thru the distillation process but maybe im out to lunch . tim
  4. hello all im looking for information and opinions on the pros and cons of the different minerals in well water , im talking for mashing not proofing . are there any minerals that would carry over into final product , any info would be great thanks . Tim
  5. so genlyon do use explosion proof fans ? if so what kind did you install . and were you able to get them in canada . tim
  6. thats a real down to earth explanation MGL i get tired of people acting like were handling a ticking time bomb that goes off on a regular bases . tim
  7. it will burn but is it considered exposive at 70 f
  8. is alcohol proofed down to below 50 % abv considered explosive
  9. our engineer required 6 air changes a hour , with explosion free fans ,drawing air from floor right behind the stills . incoming replacement air has to drawn from out side air pulled thru a heat exchange . the whole thing is very expensive horse crap imo , but i guess if they dont go over board with the rules some dip shit will be heating his still with a propane torch and blow himself up lol . its easy to over engineer things when there not paying for it . tim
  10. hello Andre way over there , best of luck with your distillery . tim and kim
  11. we ended up getting them from paulson , seems really good to deal with . kim
  12. thanks foreshot that is some great real world information , obviously this isnt the first time you have worked on this . good stuff tim
  13. welcome drone keep up the hard work . there are some very successful people on this forum from vendors , manufacturers , distillers , and flavor creators lots of talented minds to bounce ideas off . good luck to you . Paul thats good forward thinking, age doesn't mean shit , the only thing age proves is that you didn't die yet . mgl the apprenticeship program sure must be different where you live here in 5 years if you work hard you can have your journeyman electrician and your red seal ticket . i dont think any trade here takes 12 years . not saying there isnt people out there that it took them 12 years , but ...well ya know . tim
  14. curious 3 to 5 times earnings over what period of time , one year , first year , first 3 to 5 years combined , or a fiscal year averaged out over a number of years . and are you talking about actual earnings or projected earnings based on what your equipment can produce in a given time period .
  15. old barns are a great piece of history mg , people built them because they housed there lively hood. no matter how run down they are you cant help but look on them and think back to the day when they were brand new and were the pride and joy of the people who built them , all the neighbours checking it out admiring the commitment and sacrifice it took to build it . our barns are built of stone carved into a hill by a immigrant from Iowa who built 3 master pieces in this area , ours are the last ones standing . just like great whisky they were hand crafted out of necessity and infused with tradition and ingenuity and the will to survive . long live people who understand it .
  16. thats a beauty of a barn , we have 2 stone barns on our yard and really appreciate the work them old timers put into those structures . good luck with the restore and your distillery all the best . tim
  17. i agree with pete except you missed one option ...use coloured bottles lol
  18. i may be wrong but in my mind it would depend alot on the type of still your running . a column with lots of copper contact may not see any benefit to more copper contact , but a pot still with a copper head and lyne arm may need more copper contact . i also think the big copper stills in Scotland were designed a long time ago when stainless steel wasnt available . now to change to stainless condensers would have changes to the spirit profile . tim
  19. that was a very interesting read thanks for posting .
  20. genius set up genloyn ...what did you use for your loop in the pond . tim
