  1. to me that would depend on ur location if ur paying for water or not . in the country off a big bore well u can recirculate back into the well or recirculate into a tank and reuse the water for mashing or cleaning . recirculating thru a system that extracts the heat and uses it to heat buildings or cement slabs is a option . if ur in aarea that has no use for the heat it can be ran thru a hydronic rad and fan before re entering the holding tank . i think it all depends where u are urban or rural as to your options and how much heat you produce to be able to size your cooling system . at our old location recirculating in a big bore well was perfect set up now at our new location its not a option due to the location of the well compared to location of distillery . there are some very creative ideas out there jus depends on your operation and its size . tim
  2. so im curious what systems are in place to monitor the bottoms product to in sure no alcohol is being wasted . can the bottom product be recirculated thru the system if it is not completely stripped or are you useing a reboiler in hopes of lifting any alchol out of the bottoms product . if the feed is heated to say 175 under pressure once it is released into the column and expands to atmospheric pressure ethanol should instantly flash vaporise from the heat and the pressure change allowing the heavier bottom product to drop thru the column , but still has to be monitored before being pumped out . there are various monitoring systems designed to determine the content of the bottoms product and to send it either to the reboiler or to bottom product storage , but these systems are made for large scale columns{in access of 70 feet }and would not be suited to craft distillery sized operations . any idea what would be used on a smaller scale would be appreciated some body must have thought of some thing or are they just rely on the temp of the bottoms product as a guide , say bottoms out of the reboiler at 190 would ensure ethanol is long gone and no longer a pumpable product . tim
  3. we buy honey from a local colony ,huterite colony not bee colony lol its 2 bucks a pound filtered twice after extraction if u add one tbl spoon of water to every gallon of warmed honey and then whip it it will filter much easier but will not keep like raw honey .
  4. thanks for the info do u have more pics of it .......by the way in ur spare time could you invent a still that has same technology as a microwave if i can make tea in microwave why cant i get a still that uses same science . tim
  5. indy ur exactly right i jus think things are about to change in the whisky ageing game tim
  6. interesting concept seems pretty pricey in my mind it doesnt seem much more than a stainless vessel with staves floating around in them . i do believe that barrel ageing is a thing of the past , as there is more and more products coming on the market with no age statements (NAS) . interesting to see what the years to come will bring .
  7. as i was watching that video the guys comment about butchers not raising there own meat there is a outfit north of the city that breeds raises fattens and butchers there own cattle , there meat products sell for a premium because of there operation , high quality hand crafted beef lol . people need to be more aware of what there buying i think
  8. so what proof is this gns coming out of the truck at , are the cuts made or is it jus low wines off a commercial stripping run . it seems like a shame to by someone elses product just to bottle and label it . reminds me of when i worked in ethanol plant the product coming off tasted like something you by in a jar but could be redistilled into some thing resemble a vodka . basically bulk stripping run .
  9. thanks pete for info what type of fire would generate the most gases smouldering fire or burning hard .
  10. hey pete and paul got a brain teaser for you . our hydronic boiler is a 250 gallon wood fired boiler it burns 4 foot wood and heats with a water jacket system . would it be possible to collect the wood gas from the fire box as its burning and be stored to run stuff like gas power generators . thanks tim
  11. so what does gns sell for in bulk or does the going price depend on where its coming from
  12. paul what temp do most people run there oil bath oil at to get good operations and heat up time out of the still . tim
  13. if your mash tun is jacketed have you considered modify it as a stripping still
  14. yes we run baine marie they work great there no maintenance on them that you wouldnt have on any other still . how big is your mash tun tim
  15. thats a pretty big electric still might work , my vote is with out a doubt a baine marie you wont be sorry . if your trying to keep your costs down start smaller or make your own stripping still slash mash tun . if you start small run as hard as you can get the cash flowing and make sure you can sell what your making then you can upgrade to bigger with the confidence its money well spent . how big is the mash tun and fermenters that you have . depending on where you are in canada once you out grow your equipment you can resell it very easy . a small affordable well built still will make you more money than a big still that wont work or scorches product . the cheepest thing you buy to run a distillery is the still but its some thing you cant cheep out on . if i was you i would contact paul at ade talk to him explain your outfit and see what he can suggest there is more than one way to skin a cat even if you cant afford a knife lol when the night shift is bitching they cant keep up to sales then its time to buy bigger equipment , tim
  16. hello thanks for the information but i was looking for a canadian or american manufacturer
  17. i think the proper name for it is the glug glug lol .......as in who took the glug glug out of this bottle
  18. looks nice do you have any more info on them , how big , what gauge ,are they insulated or jacketed , how much , and where are you located .thanks tim
  19. i dont think wood is a pollutant or wasteful , the particles in wood smoke settle as fertiliser and burning wood is carbon neutral because the tree uses more carbon to grow than it producers when burnt , as far as it being wasteful wood is a renewable resource utilising it is a natural cycle of a forest . paul your idea is really cool i hope you pursue it and perfect it , can the gas produced be stored or must it be used immediately after its produced . if the system was able to be ran 24/7 producing and storing the gas making it available for peak times that would be one sweet unit . tim
  20. nice set up stumpy do you take the tote down and refill it or is it filled with a auger . tim
  21. thats pretty neat pete our is set up quite different than that , next time im in Australia i ll have to come see you and check it out . have you ever considered an evaporation pond or evaporation tower to get rid of waste water . im looking for an alternative to a normal septic system . tim
