  1. Crangratulations,,, I'm glad to see another member of the spitits community open in VA. I'm in NOVA. With fortune and good luck I'll be joining all the others licensed in VA soon. The next distillery will be the ladies in the southern par ogf VA where are you located. I couldn't determine it from your website. Dick G
  2. How coincidental, i just got off the phone with Don O'Connor, Ph.D. of St. Patrick's of Texas, who rudely spoke to me or shall I say preached and then hung up with a rude 'Have a Nice Day". I'm trying to outfit my plant and going through the Local County occupancy permit proceedure for the new site. The County Building Dept asked me for OSHA or UL specs on the stainless tanks I'll be installing to determne the fire hazard properties. I emailed St Patricks asking for any info on these specs and received a terse reply (Actual reply) "we do not such specifications. in short, all the materials on tank and valves .... are fine with high alcohol" My next thought was to find out where I could get these specs and called him. His responce to my phone question was "we sell to 100's of distillers who use these tanks for alcohol and they do just fine" As I attempted to explain why I needed the info and if there was someone I could call at Letina, he rudely interrupted me and said" we don't have this and will never have this, have a nice day" and hung up the phone. I thought others should be aware of such customer treatment. In all my years of doing business (40 +) I have never experienced this type of rude treatment. Need less to say "Dr" Oconner of St Patricks of Texas will never see a dime of my money. He just lost the sale of 6 tanks, a filler , labeling equipment and much more. It also indicates to me the type of service one can expect from St Patricks of Texas after the sale etc. good Luck Doc!!! Any recommendations are appreciated Dick G
  3. Thanks Kevin, but that link is dead. See the message "This video has been removed by the user" I had a craft wood worker make me a simple cap pusher of my design out of hard wood and it works beautifully. I get the bar top in quickly without breaking my hands. I'm stiil looking for some mechanical device I can use when I get into high production. So far only Kevin came up with something. The machine advertised on the Texas supplier are way too costly to be practical.
  4. Looks like I'm buying tthe book. Does any one know of any software or record keeping application for keeping TTB Records. I've found my site and will be signing the lease and then making application for Licensing. I'm not distilling so I hope all goes smoothly and quickly.
  5. This discussion has solved one of my concerns. Thanks
  6. Did a quick search and found this: http://www.conspec-controls.com/products/ethanol-gas-detector.asp Let us know if this company has what you need. I'd be interested in putting one in even if it weren't a requirement. Good luck
  7. Oxidation of mascerated based liqueurs is an interest of mine. I don't distill - I mascerate. I've experienced oxidation in soft fruit based liqueurs sometimes fairly quickly within a year final filtering. The type of fruit is usually in Plum or Plumcot/pluot mixes. As the liqueur ages (in glass) it tends to experience low levels of oxidation. This results in a "raisin" type flavor. I am looking for a solution to this and would appreciate any ideas or proven solutions.
  8. It's the formula. Fruit/Botanicals concentration and quantity is essential to flavor extraction and aroma. The Rule is: try and then try again and then try again. I've been at it for over 30 years and it always comes back to that same rule. Best of luck.
  9. Great stuff - Loved the Rye Pod Cast - Learned lots. Looking forward to the others especially about the Irish. Keep em coming!!
  10. Good Luck with the TTB - Hope all goes well and quickly
  11. I'll be looking for suppliers for 375ml bottles. Any recommendatiosn are appreciated.
  12. I agree with Spirit of Texas Brad. Ever since the update notice emails were discontinued. I find I only come to the Forum when I have a question, need information or it comes to mind I hadn't checked the Forum in a while. We're all busy, tending to our businesses so I doubt if we two are the only ones missing the automatic notices. Without the update emails, we're missing the opportunity to help folks and also losing out by not actively keeping up with what other DSPs are doing. Please bring back this great update feature. Regards
  13. When infusing, the flavor is strongest in the beginning of the process. Over time a few things happen. If there are solids carrying flavor and they settle or come out of solution, the flavor weakens. The other factor is the mellowing of the flavor elements as they merge with or meld into into the base spirit. This is a natural condition of the aging process unlike straight spirits, rye, burbon, malts, etc. ageing in wood, where the wood imports flavor over time.
  14. To Deerhammer: How were you able to change COLA reps?
  15. Thanks, I just downloaded the Criveller Catalog -
  16. I'm getting ready to open this month and have begun looking for equipment. Any recommendations on a lablel printer and tabletop labeling machine that will do front and back in one pass. I'm interested if some one has a used machine they might want to sell.
  17. Thanks Troy. If your hands hurt as mine do, you and I are prospects for a simple mechanicanical bar top corker - Something along the lines of those that cork wine with a long lever. Thanks also for the Tapi reference - I like one of their caps.
  18. 2 questions_ (1) I use Bar Top corks for my bottles and need a simple device for inserting into the bottles? A manual devise is fine for now. (2) any recommendations for a manufacturer supplier of bartops using the replacement rubber/plastic type material for cork?
  19. Thanks Keith - I checked out the site. Will get quotes - Any recommendactions - I'll be filling 375 ml & 750 ml Have limited cash
  20. Thanks I'll keep that in mind.
  21. Question for Mike at CJVodka - who is TCW - I'm budgeting for a 4 spout filler and was looking at Enolmaster. If there are others out there I'm interested in finding these companies. I have looked at Expressfil and they're close to $3000 . If this company TCW has a system for $1800, I'd like to check it out. Any help would be appreciated. Dick
  22. I also miss the automatic notification of updates and new topics.
  23. This conversation is so timely. I'm about to open up and ventilation, fumes and fire hazard has been a large unanswered question in my mind.
