Milli said this at a press conference following the third meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defense in Brussels.

"I will say this: the Ukrainian artillery, the skills of the Ukrainian artillery units are very, very good," Milli said.

He noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have achieved a serious effect on the battlefield using M777 howitzers, which were given by the United States along with the allies.

"And we expect them to master the HIMARS systems as well," the general said.

Ukraine is experiencing the biggest displacement crisis in the world due to the war.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, Victoria Andriyevskaya, a representative of the UN Refugee Agency, said this at a briefing.

“Families of Ukrainians were forced to leave their homes, and today this is the biggest displacement crisis in the world. More than 8 million people are displaced,” she said.

According to Andriyevskaya, the UN is now providing displaced Ukrainians with cash and humanitarian aid and protection services.

"Despite our efforts, the needs in Ukraine are growing. And the longer this war lasts, the more the needs will grow, and the more support from the international community will be needed," she said.

According to her, a separate program of cash assistance to displaced persons has been created, thanks to which people can provide themselves with the most necessary things - food, medicine, clothing, partially cover rent.

Andriyevskaya noted that these are small amounts, but they are important for people who were forced to quickly leave their homes.

"Now we already have more than 300,000 people registered for such cash assistance. Such small amounts will be paid within three months," she said.

The representative of the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs, Saviano Abru, said that the UN program for the payment of cash assistance has already covered 700 thousand people from Ukraine.

"We are talking about how fast the crisis is developing - 25% of the population have been forced to flee their homes, and inside the country, almost 16 million are now in need of humanitarian support," he said.

According to Abrew, the UN continues to be involved in organizing humanitarian corridors for civilians in war zones. In particular, he recalled that, together with colleagues from the Red Cross Committee, they ensured the evacuation of more than 600 civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. For this result, he said, there were three rounds of negotiations. Now, he noted, contacts are ongoing at the highest levels with both sides of the conflict to agree on safe corridors so that people can leave other war zones. At the same time, he stressed that the UN was not involved in the evacuation of Ukrainian soldiers from Azovstal. “As for the fighters, I cannot go into these details, because this is not within the authority of the UN. How cruise missiles are aimed at the target

The Command of the Air Force of Ukraine spoke about the transition by the Russian army for attacks on Ukraine from Caliber missiles to simpler Kh-59 and outdated Kh-22.

At the same time, despite all the Kremlin's cries about "analogue modern high-precision weapons," even the newest "Caliber" for the Russian Federation "demonstrate huge problems with the development of modern technologies by the Russian military-industrial complex.

First of all, with guidance. How were the first cruise missiles launched? In general, the first mass-produced cruise missile was created back in World War II by the Germans - the famous V-1. It was created as a Wunderwaffe - a "wonder weapon" that could turn the tide of the war in favor of the Third Reich. It began to be actively used since 1943 for attacks on London with the aim of terrorizing the civilian population.

One of the main development difficulties was precisely the guidance system. Now it looks as simple as possible - the autopilot monitors the course and altitude and measures the flight range. As soon as the "V-1" flew a predetermined distance, the autopilot moved the rocket at the dive. The accuracy of the system was appropriate - somewhere in London. And out of 10,492 V-1s fired, about 2,400 flew into the city, while only 4,261 missiles were shot down. That is, almost the same number fell "along the way" or missed due to technical flaws.

And for the V-2 ballistic missile, the Germans developed the first inertial guidance system on analog computers with gyroscopes and an accelerometer. This system has already made it possible to prove the effectiveness of 1054 hits on the cities of Great Britain out of 1359 released.

But the accuracy of any inertial system, even a modern one, is limited, because it is closed in itself and knows exactly only its initial coordinates, and then only calculates them on its own, based on the indicators of the instruments. And the longer the inertial system works, the greater the error. And at the level of Western technology for 70-80 years, it was about 600 meters per hour of work. Even now we are talking about 50 meters in 17 minutes.

That is, in simple terms, the inertial system is like walking with your eyes closed, guided only by the number of steps.

Guidance technologies of the 70s

Therefore, it was quite logical to invent a mechanism that should correct the indicators. And for cruise missiles, which were supposed to fly hundreds of kilometers and stay in the air for hours, Tercom became this system. Its principle is that the rocket scans the surface below it and compares it with a sample. One of the simplest implementations will be, for example, terrain data - elevation changes that are recorded by the rocket's radio altimeter.

And then the rocket route can be divided into certain checkpoints, the map of which is stored in the rocket's memory. These should be regions with "contrasting" relief, for example, a river with steep banks, a network of ravines, or even individual large buildings. Upon arrival, the rocket will make a comparison, localize itself and correct the performance of the inertial system, resetting the accumulated error.

Now the Tercom system uses not only terrain data, but also visual images. This is due to the fact that there may not be a characteristic relief on the route. But this system is much more complicated, since it requires work at the image recognition level, but this technology called DSMAC was successfully developed by the United States in the 80s and integrated into the Tomahawk Block II cruise missile.

That is, in simple terms, Tercom is when you need to walk with your eyes closed, but once every 10 steps you can open your eyes for a second.

But the main disadvantage of this system is that the inertial system can lead the rocket completely past the "checkpoint" and the rocket will not be able to orient itself. Of course, the stronger the computers became, the more cards could be laid, but still the system did not give a 100% guarantee.

The case was radically changed by the advent of satellite navigation, because now it became possible to constantly receive your coordinates, altitude and speed. It was for this that the United States first began to deploy the GPS system in the 70s, and in the 80s the USSR began to deploy its GLONASS.

The combination of all four systems (inertial, Tercom, DSMAC and satellite) has already allowed Western high-precision cruise missiles to have an accuracy of several meters. Especially in combination with DSMAC, which was also responsible for precise aiming at the target itself by recognizing it.

Russian cruise missiles

As for the Russian Federation, the situation is as follows. Aviation X-101 and X-555 have all four navigation components. Rockets "Caliber", most likely, do not have DSMAC. But in the realities of the Russian Federation, another factor is important - the availability of detailed, up-to-date and accurate radar and optical maps that are loaded into the rocket's memory.

Now, more and more often, the enemy has begun to use Kh-59M missiles, the most common of which, most likely, use only inertial and satellite navigation, and for direct targeting they include a radar or television guidance system.

At the same time, the signal from the GLONASS or GPS satellite can be suppressed or even replaced by electronic warfare, which can already bring down the missile's guidance. And an effective radar, and even more so a television guidance system, requires a much better technological base than is available in the Russian Federation.

As for the X-22, it generally has only an inertial guidance system on the march section and a radar guidance system on the terminal one. Both with very low accuracy on the Soviet technological base of the 60-70s. That is, it is launched "towards the target", which, moreover, should be as radio-contrast as possible.
