  1. Thanks for all the help guys, some really great suggestions. I did mention earlier that the pump is equipped with a VFD. If none of the suggestions work we'll wire a float switch to the VFD and be done with it. The pump works great with our milk can grant but manually turning the pump on and off is what we're tying to avoid. It seems possible that we might be able to solve this with a slower speed and more sparge water. The KISS principal from @PeteB and @adamOVD sounds like a winner as well. Thanks again. Cheers!
  2. Thanks @Brewstilla and @PeteB. We'll try it again running the pump slower and let the lauter tun be the grant. If it doesn't work, we're all set up to wire in a float switch to the VFD Cheers
  3. Hi All, We have a Jabsco pump from TCW. In our first mash we collapsed the grain bed by having the pump directly connected to the mash tun. We are using an all malt mash. Since that time we have been using a milk can as a grant to prevent pulling a suction and collapsing the grain bed. This works great. However, it requires us to manually turn the pump on and off. We would like to do this automatically. I believe a high temp float switch will do the job for us. How is anyone else handling this? Any better ideas on how to approach this problem?
  4. We've been through the process as have others on this forum. From my perspective it is a 3 step process, register your company, register your company as a labeler and register your product. Send a screen print of where you are getting rejected and maybe I can get you going again. As I previously wrote, the instructions must be followed very closely or you will get rejected. From what I saw, the rejections did a pretty good job of guiding you to the error. Are you following the Product Listing - Hand Sanitizer in the lower left corner?
  5. Without knowing where you are in the process, I wonder if you are aware that you are not authorized to make gel sanitizer. Gel sanitizer is specifically excluded from the FDA guidance. https://americancraftspirits.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Temporary-Policy-Compounding-Hand-Sanitizers-Revised-Guidance-Final-4-15-2020.pdf
  6. All that I can tell you is we have two man doors and an overhead door between the DSP and an attached warehouse. All three doors are on the plans submitted to TTB. Dalkita is a distillery architect and they consult as well. You might want to give them a call. https://www.dalkita.com/contact/ Another person who could give you an answer is our former ATF guy, Dave Dunbar dhdunbar1@gmail.com @dhdunbar I've had the discussion about floor to ceiling and TTB seems adamant on that point.
  7. The door should be fine. We have two. Is he saying this is a TTB issue or a fire issue?
  8. The locks that DSPs use to secure outdoor tanks or indoor tanks containing spirits and, the enclosures around outdoor tanks and doors from which access may be gained from the outside to the rooms or buildings containing the indoor tanks or portable bulk containers of spirits, shall meet the minimum specifications in 27 CFR 19.192(f). Is your entire building going to have a H-3 occupancy?
  9. It takes several hours. The guide is helpful but if you contact their tech support you get a very respectful "read the document" response. You are registering/applying for 3 things, your establishment, your labeler code and then establishing the NDC number for each size container. Each step requires a separate approval before you are allowed to move ahead. You must also be prepared in the final step to upload a copy of your label, both front and back. The one piece of advice I can give you is to follow the document. If you approach this thinking you can "figure it out" you will cause yourself a lot of grief and additional time. I tried to "figure it out" and wound up starting from the beginning twice.
  10. We are both a malt house and a distillery. We use a flow scale to measure the amount of raw barley that goes into our steep tank to make malt. It's fed by a tube conveyor but could easily be fed by a auger. We are quite please with how well it works and how rugged it is. Brewers mount this right above a mill. http://agtronix.com/flowscale.html
  11. At first read I would say 53 gallons. Whiskey barrels are not standard size. 53 gallon whiskey barrel dimensions are 21- 22 inches in diameter for the heads top and bottom by 35-36 inches in height, the circumference of the bilge will be around 26 to 28 inches. There might be other sizes I not aware of.
  12. You might want to consult the FDA guidance. This is cut from the doc. The hand sanitizer product is produced as an aqueous solution and not as a gel, foam, or aerosol spray.
  13. You didn't say if you wanted it malted. These guys are a malt house in Ohio and they offer it. https://www.hausmalts.com/products
  14. Trying to fill out a Production Report. The roll over works fine in the Processing Report (5110.28) and Storage (5110.11) but not in the Production Report. Any advice on what I might be doing wrong? I've downloaded it several times and it is open in Acrobat.

  16. Thanks Silk, Our process is similar to the portion of your text I have quoted. How do I correct the incorrect reports??? We have NEVER had storage and we will not likely have storage in the future.
  17. The person who was filing our reports has left the company. As I am sorting through things I find that he has been filing storage reports as other than zero. When reading the TTB web site it states: "Generally, storage is when you hold bulk quantities of product without specific plans for further processing". In our operation we do not hold bulk spirits. What is the proper way to correct this? Do I need to file amended reports or just start reporting zero? The web site also says: "you may obtain approval from TTB to defer filing of storage reports until you begin storing spirits." How do I file for this deferment?
  18. A proof gallon is way different than a wine gallon of 96% alchohol. Maybe english is your second language, but you sound pretty sketchy. I think I'd buy from the 100$ a gallon guy before I gave you any money or spirits. This guy has been on the forum for a couple of years. His first language is not English. But, if you really need something, talk to him on the phone as I did. I'm not sure if we're going to need any but he assured me that this is WHO formulated hand sanitizer. BTW, this is the web site for the phone number he has asked you to call or text. https://narenewableenergy.com/contact/
  19. Dave Dunbar - Dave is an active participant on this forum and has helped many people get their DSP. dhdunbar1@gmail.com If you want to message him on this forum his contact is below @dhdunbar
