Looking for reliable large still manufacturer

Modernist

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

We're in the market for a couple of large stills, both upwards to 1000 gal, one for whiskey, one for everything else. We've been having trouble either having companies get back to us, or the prices are too high.

We've reached out to Vendome (still waiting for them), Koethe (too pricey) and Trident. We're looking for an American manufacturer preferably, but are willing to consider others if the price and quality is right.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Give Tory at Corson a call. He is really helpful and I know that he has done custom stills larger than 1000G. Corson is based out of Idaho.

Good afternoon,

We manufacture continuous flow distillation equipment, 1000g wash processed every 8 hours, single pass. Low to High proof on the same system. All of our design and manufacturing is performed in Butte, MT.

You can learn more about us at www.headframestills.com or in the March issue of Popular Mechanics, in which our technology is featured.

Cheers,

John McKee

We make stills also. But the thing is to find some one who will not rob you blind. We can make stills any size you want, we Also make very very large continuous stills. Just ask "Old Glory Distillery" in TN.

But the thing is anyone will sell you what you want but the right person will sell you what you need. like... why do you need 1000g still? that is insanely large and inefficient, and requires a massive boiler so= more $$$. why not go with something a little smaller and make it twice as efficient increasing your production, saving time and saving you money overall.

-Batch system pre heaters

- continuos stripper

- tank to tank heat exchangers

-ect

Work smarter not harder

Definitely a fair question-- we're opening a somewhat large facility, and the still size is on recommendation from our consultant. He's the one who is vetting the manufacturers and setting things up for us. I was just trying to find some alternatives to Vendome (who FINALLY got back to us) to offer him.

Corson might be too busy. I left them a voicemail and sent them emails about the stills we are looking for a few weeks ago. But never heard back. Talk to Joseph at Dehner, and Paul at distillery-equipment.com. Both are very responsive.

Strange. I don't have a problem getting a hold of them and Tory has been very helpful.

As far as your selection goes, I have worked with at least five of those mentioned to provide chilled water systems for their clients.

Of those, I have four distilleries under construction at various places like Daytona Beach-FL, Durham-NC, Pittsburgh-PA, Clarksville-TN.

Let me know if you or your consultant need any particulars when the time comes.

Mike

Yes, I was puzzled too because he had good recommendations here. But I called him twice, left him messages saying we were looking for someone who can make us copper pot stills, even sent an email saying I saw his posts here, but no response.

All,

We are fortunate to have lots of business these days, but we are definitely available. As you can imagine, we receive a lot of inquiries--sometimes dozens in a day. This forces us to prioritize calls back based on how well they fit with the style and range of our equipment. We don't pretend to build anything and everything. Instead, we choose projects to work on that are an ideal fit for us and our customers.

All the best,

Tory Corson

In full disclosure, finally got a call back from Tory today after over a month of emailing him and leaving him voicemail. He explained he's been really busy and we had been on his list to call back. I guess it's like Gold Rush times and the equipment manufacturers are overwhelmed by the demand.

We receive over 50 emails and at least 25 calls per day concerning equipment and we always get back to everyone. We normally answer our emails within 2 business days but occasionally we get 4 or 5 days behind. Email me paul@distillery-equipment.com or call 417-778-6100 Every customer is important to us and no one is ignored. If we cannot supply what you want, we will get back to you ASAP and let you know. We have equipment in over 120 legal distilleries and we have built many of our larger Pro Series stills 300 to 800 gallons. Call or Email us anytime and we will get right back to you. We have a very good reference list, listing many distilleries where you can visit to see our equipment in action. We feel very strongly that our prices are the best in the USA and of course as you can see in the pics below our quality is excellent. Below are links to some pictures of just a few of the stills that we have built.

Has anyone bought any of the stills made in China. I have had quotes from companies for 200 gallon steam jacketed unit w agitation and 2 reflux columns for producing rum, whiskey, gin, brandy and vodka for low 20's. I am a little apprehensive to buy from china but when you see identical units to still dragons on the Chinese sites you have to question where everyone gets there stills,

For the near future I am in the market for a setup to do rum, gin, whiskey, and vodka in the 200 gal range, steam jacketed. This is for a startup, I own another company and want to dip my toes into a micro real soon. To preserve my marriage I cant go large setup yet, but can gamble enough away on a 200 gal setup that if it didn't work out I can stay married. We are looking at locations now.

Any advise on dealers of small setups would be appreciated.

From poking around Alibaba a few times, it looks like EVERYONE's stills are copied by Chinese factories, which may or may not be the same factories producing the equipment for those manufacturers.

Not to speak for ASD, but I remember a few years back the topic came up here a number of times, where very similar systems were being posted on Alibaba. I would assume the same for everyone else. Seems like the minute a new product is online, there is a factory in China making a copy of it. It might look great, but if their plate design is awful, the whole rig is going to be junk. Don't look at the shiny copper, that's the meaningless exterior. How does it function? The Alibaba advertisement probably doesn't touch on that. These places might never have even run a still before making a copy. How do you know the picture on the website is even a still they made? They even steal pictures to re-use on their websites and Alibaba. Ever wonder why Stilldragon photos have watermarks all over them? Because all their photos are stolen and re-used by other manufacturers.

As to equipment made in China, some is terrible, some is great. As to equipment made in America, some is terrible, some is great. What I would imagine you get by buying though someone here is peace of mind. I don't know about you, but wiring tens of thousands of dollars to a party in China? Sight unseen? From the consumer side, I'd much rather prefer a party here in the good old USA who can very easily be sued in the American courts system should something go wrong. Likewise, they have the relationships, they've likely taken the hard knocks so we don't need to. Everyone dealing with China takes the knocks, I'm sure they did, even if they aren't going to publicly talk about them.

The still is such a tiny part of the startup budget, why is that even a factor? To save a couple thousand bucks trying to go direct? C'mon, the potential negatives of dealing direct SIGNIFICANTLY outweigh the cost savings. Think of couple of dollars price difference as paying insurance.

And I don't even sell these things for a living.

ASD is made in china, just ask them. Designed in Canada, or USA. A lot of places are selling stuff made in China. It is only smart for the people from China to try to come here direct and sell there stuff when they see how much it is being marked up.

We pride our selves making equipment in the USA.
