whiskeytango Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 I have a blending thank that I have a couple light spots of rust in. Just wondering what the proper procedure would be to take care of this. Looks like just surface rust on a seam about the size of a nickel.
Southernhighlander Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 There are lots of different ways to passivate, but I would rub a little bradford Durustit Wonder Gel on there and then remove it in 20 minutes with some soapy water and the rust will be gone and will probably never return. If you want to completely passivate the vessel then you will need to do that with nitric acid or citric. Just do a google search on passivating stainless steel and you will find a tun of info.
indyspirits Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Good scouring with an oxalic acid based cleanser (read: barkeepers friend) and then let it dry. Works for us.
PeteB Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Do not rub off with regular steel wool, it will make it worse in the long run
Hudson bay distillers Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 paul how strong citric acid do you suggest tim
richard1 Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 The majority of these are on the weld line. Rather get some pickling paste from some SS welders.
