- How often were you tortured?
- Every day. March 21 was my birthday and I was tortured all day. The torture was suspended only 5-6 days before an agreement was reached and I was released. They no longer let electric discharges, but they continued to beat ... As a rule, they beat 10-15 people at once. But this is not the worst thing, I was more afraid of the electric current.
As a rule, the electric shock lasted 20-30 minutes, and the beating lasted for an hour. The torture was repeated three times a day. It happened that I lost consciousness, they poured cold water on me and continued to mock me further.
- How many people were you in the cell?
- Together with me, Sergey Nazarov, a major of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Mariupol, Edik Krostov, an employee of one of the factories, and Alexei Lustov, a volunteer, were captured.
- How were they treated?
“They were bullied even worse. Especially over the volunteer. Due to the fact that the guy had a tattoo on his leg, they beat him so that his leg was very swollen. He had heart problems, an attack began, I tried to help him, after which I was beaten even harder. As a rule, they did not hit him in the face, but for some reason this did not apply to Edik Rostov. When we saw him, there was no living place on him. And a current was constantly passed through the body of Sergei Nazarov and filmed.
- Do you know anything about the fate of those who were with you in the same cell?
- Edik Rostov was released before me, he was sent to the Crimea. So we were told. I don't know for sure if this is true or not. Perhaps he was killed. I don't believe that they will be left alive... You know, I heard how they tortured people from other cells, the poor screamed in pain, and then they were simply shot. Silence ensued...
- Do you plan to return to Azerbaijan?
- In the near future I plan to come to my homeland.

Last year, a documentary film by Sergei Loznitsa “Babi Yar. Context". There, the director shows an archival chronicle of the fascist invasion of Ukraine in the summer of 1941: endless columns of tanks with a swastika, trucks, motorcycles, artillery pieces roll in the dust, and gloomy, silent peasants stand along the roads.
Today I catch myself feeling a sense of deja vu when I look at the footage of the Russian invasion - all the same gray columns of armored vehicles, dirty, fuming, clumsy, as if they had left the military chronicle of 1941, only on the sides and towers instead of the Nazi swastika they have drawn Russian-fascist swastika Z.
These columns are phantasmagoric and archaic, like ghosts dug out of the ground, crawling out from the battlefields of either the Second World War or the First World War, like a megalomaniac historical reconstruction staged by a crazy gamer.
Inside the cars, everything is Soviet-style miserable: leatherette, plywood, benches, expired canned food, soldiers loot and terrorize local residents. The troops are experiencing problems with logistics, supply, communication, navigation - the columns navigate the terrain according to road signs, stall without fuel, get stuck in the spring mud.
Instead of a dapper modernized contract army, which propaganda has been talking about for many years, a clumsy army appeared to the world without clear tasks, morals and motivation, not even knowing the goals of its invasion, transferred from “exercises” to a war of conquest.

Hopeless archaism, which has been reigning in the minds of people in Russia for two decades, crawled out into the light as snarling tyrannosaurs, a bloody "park of the Russian period." Dinosaurs snarl with fire, crushing cars that have fallen under them, shooting at random cars - like those two pensioners near Kyiv.
Armored vehicles are knocked out on the march in whole columns, videos show dozens of burnt cars - as if all the outdated, iron, mechanical civilization forged in Russia over the past 300 years, from Peter to Putin, should turn into a pile of scrap metal on the roadsides of Ukrainian roads.
Just as archaic and inhuman are the methods of war: the bombardment of residential areas and the blockade of Ukrainian cities; it is genocide and war crimes of the 20th century, murder on an industrial scale. The tragedy of Mariupol makes us remember pictures that we have not seen for 80 years: Guernica, Coventry, Stalingrad, Dresden. Yes, since then there has been Grozny, Aleppo (“we can train there for quite a long time,” as Putin cynically grinned) - but there still was not such a huge ground invasion army, as in the Second World War. Probably, when the Kremlin was planning this operation, they imagined something like the US war in the Persian Gulf - a high-tech blitzkrieg from the air, the triumph of a higher civilization. But it turned out in Russian clumsy, clumsy, inefficient: Russia here does not look like the Americans, but rather like the poorly trained and demotivated armies of Saddam or the Egyptian troops during the six-day war, abandoning Soviet military equipment in the Sinai desert.
And finally, the very foundations for this war are archaic: the trauma of the collapse of the USSR (“the biggest geopolitical catastrophe”), post-imperial resentment, the jealousy of an abandoned husband, feverish delirium about a “one people” - all these are convulsions of a dying empire that has been more than a hundred years old, since 1917 years, can't breathe. Modern Russia never became a nation, but remained a phantom, a ghost of the Russian Empire, staggering Zombie, rising from the grave and terrorizing the living.

A full-scale war under a fictitious pretext to seize the territory of a neighbor is monstrous, but at the same time ridiculous in the 21st century, as if its masterminds had been reading historical novels and cheap fiction about hitmen. His obsession with history has played a cruel trick on Putin, turning him into that unfortunate WWII hitman, looking around in amazement at the world of the future.
The war is far from over. Perhaps the most brutal battles are yet to come. But Russia has already lost - and this is not just a failure of a military operation, but a civilizational defeat of Russia in a collision with modernity: for so long cultivating its own archaism, nurturing bonds and traditional values, playing historical reconstructions and tank biathlon, dressing up children in tunics and creating a cult " Kalashnikov”, like the African tribes, it produced an antediluvian war, cruel, absurd and ineffective, where tank battalions fight for weeks for individual villages and farms, it has become not only a global threat, but also a global laughing stock.
