We are fed the standard narrative by MSM that the Russians are being kept in the dark by the government's censorship. But this is not completely true.  The Russian censorship did not start at the end of February.  It has been growing for years and the Russian public have become very adept at using VPNs etc to get around the black-out policies.  I believe that there is a growing awareness amongst the Russian public of what is really happening.

The changing attitude becomes clear when a professional "misinformer" like Dmitry Peskov is no longer able to look into the camera while being interviewed.

The first battles in the Donbass, both for Ukraine and the Russian Federation, quickly proved that it was the reconnaissance drones that were crucial for effective fire. And it was precisely on the basis of the experience of 2014 that the Kremlin began the mass production of Orlan-10, which by 2022 had managed to produce more than 1,000 units.

Subsequently, more professional equipment began to be installed on it, including the American Flir thermal imaging cameras, the Danish daytime Phase One IXA 180, as well as full-fledged gyro-stabilized optical stations. In some brochures, there is a mention of the products of the Israeli company Controp with miniature stations of the STAMP family.

That is, it is quite difficult to find at least something Russian in Orlan-10. Therefore, the likelihood that the Russian Federation will be able to continue producing Orlan-10 in conditions of total isolation is rather rhetorical.

The price of "Orlan-10" remains officially undetermined, there are figures of 80-120 thousand dollars for one UAV, without specifying the type of load, which can be up to 50% of the cost of the drone, and also without reference to a reliable source of information origin. Under these conditions, it is rather difficult to estimate the cost of the entire complex, consisting of several drones and a control station.

What is dangerous "Orlan-10"
But given that these UAVs in the Russian Federation were able to release a sufficiently large number, they continue to be a rather dangerous factor on the battlefield.

Orlan-10 usually operates at an altitude of 500 meters, although it can climb several kilometers. This is due to the power of the cameras, because from a high altitude they will not have enough resolution.

Loitering over positions, this drone can determine the coordinates of targets, and during an artillery raid it makes fire adjustments in the online data transfer mode.

But, for example, for reconnaissance of rear positions, Orlan-10 can be used offline, when the drone flies along a given route using GPS coordinates and records to internal memory.

Orlan-10, like any small-sized drone, is quite difficult to notice, both with the eyes and on the radar. And also quite hard to knock down. Therefore, developers around the world are still in search of a reliable means of combating drones of this class. Therefore, a combination of measures to counter electronic warfare stations and fire damage is still being used.

At the same time, one should not think that the Orlan-10 is a drone that is unique in its capabilities. Since 2014, the Ukrainian army has also adopted, received in significant numbers and honed the tactics of using much better UAVs of a similar class. We are talking about such complexes as Fury, Aist-100, PD-1, Spectator and others.

People's Drone PD-1 is a Ukrainian unmanned aircraft complex, designed for enhanced reconnaissance and control over enemy movements. The All-Ukrainian Center for Volunteers "People's Project" and UkrSpecSystems are responsible for the release.

The Spectator-M1 is the third variant that completed state testing at the end of February 2019. The weight of the UAV has been reduced, it is equipped with a new thermal imager[17] and a new parachute system, and its flight duration has been increased. Smolensk disaster: Poland accused Russia of blowing up Kaczynski's plane

In turn, the Russian Federation interfered in every possible way with the investigation, impeding access to fragments of the aircraft, technical documentation and all the negotiations of the pilots. So far, Poland has not been handed over the original record of the flight recorders, parts of the aircraft parts and documents from the Smolensk-Severny military airfield.

In connection with the new findings, the preliminary investigation of the disaster from 2011 was declared invalid. The document was signed by Jerzy Miller. The text said the plane had crashed due to a controlled ground rendezvous. In turn, Macerevich believes that the report was made on the basis of fake materials and political pressure.

Depending on the length of the war, the proportion of the population living below the actual subsistence level could reach 70 percent in 2022, according to a World Bank forecast.

This is stated in the report of the financial institution. The gross domestic product (GDP) of Ukraine at the end of 2022 in the conditions of a full-scale war may decrease by 45.1% compared to 2021.

The poverty rate due to the war and the resulting displacement could be 19.8% this year. As of 2021, this figure was 1.8%. For countries with comparable incomes, the poverty threshold is $5.5 per day per person. The World Bank expects this figure to be 18.5% in 2023 and 17.1% in 2024.

“The poverty and social consequences of the war will be huge. Modeling using the latest macroeconomic forecast shows that the share of the population with incomes below the actual subsistence level (the subsistence level for able-bodied persons in 2022 is UAH 2,481 – ed.) could reach 70 percent in 2022 compared to 18 percent in 2021... By 2025, this figure will still be above 60 percent,” the report says.

World Bank analysts predict that the Ukrainian economy, after the collapse of GDP, will recover at a slow pace - against the backdrop of a slow recovery in productivity and exports, and the gradual return of refugees.

The United Nations has already recorded more than 10000 civilian deaths during the war.
